Unable to play the file

Not much information here...
I'm guessing you're trying to play a movie or music?
If so, go get VLC from here, it plays everything!

The movie ?V271108_15.24.3gp? could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found. After this is displayed ..i get the spinning ball od death and frozen iphoto

Chances are, this was a cached files and the original doesn't exist on your Mac anymore. Otherwise it could be a referenced movie, again the original (aliased) file is missing or not where the movie is looking for. If you get info (Command I) on the movie and look under more info, it should point to the size and type of movie, .3GP movies may need an addition CODEC to play on your Mac, or at least QuickTime 6.5 or later

I have a seagate 300gb external h/drive plugged into my mac book pro but cannot seem to play movies on mac book from external..help!!

You didn't say how you are connecting the drive. with a MBP you should be able to play the movies if the drive transfer speed is enough. Try moving the movie onto the desktop and playing it, if that works, then it's a transfer speed problem. If not, then you probably need the right piece of software to run it. I'd try VLC which is an open source player that takes almost any content type.

IDVD: Problems with burned DVD.

Try a different brand of blank DVD.
If that doesn't work any better, and your MacBook Pro is in fact "brand new," bring it to the Apple Store, because you have warranty redress.

Get the program "Toast" by roxio software.
in my opinion its the greatest burning tool for the mac. It does dvds and cd for music, data and video and stuff.
