Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I have a canon sx100is digital camera i purchased a week and a half ago. it was working fine until last night when all of the sudden the lcd went black. it still works, the camera just will not take new pictures. i can still view the pictures and videos before that point, but can't record anything new. should i just return the camera or is there hope that maybe i messed with a setting that screwed up the camera?

Turn on the camera and press the DISP button once. Take the camera back for exchange with your retailer if this does not correct the problem.

Canon power shot sx100is LENS ERROR

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Don't want to get your hopes up too high, but here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

White LCD screen

The LCD connection may be loose or the LCD itself broken. You may need to have a service centre replace the LCD unit.

Black pictures when using flash

The black images with flash mean that the Iris mechanism in the lens is not working properly, and that needs a professional camera repair service.

A85 LCD stays off in all modes except "stitch"

Hi Toonz
I have exactly the same problem as Shimoni and Antonio with my 4 years old A85.
But sorry, its not a problem of the CCD, cause we all get a clear actual picture on the LCD but just in stitch mode! In any other shooting or playback mode the LCD is dark. So the sensor must be working well and Canon Germany doesnt repair for free. Our failure is different and we have to pay much more than the camera is worth ;-((

Vertical lines obscuring image

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.
