Lenovo N100 does not switch to battery power

I have a LENOVO N100 laptop. The laptop is working fine with direct power. But when I am switching off direct power the laptop is switching off. Battery charge is showing 60%. Another problem is while on direct power it is not charging the battery (I get the message "plugged in, not charging"). So, VERY SLOWLY the battery power is running out day by day. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Batteries have a memory,

When the battery was new it most likely would run for 1.5 hours, but, since you didn't want the computer to go off, and you were by a plug-in, you plugged it in before it was completely or maybe sometimes not even halfway discharged. That is where it stated its "memory" - this got shorter and shorter = your battery "THINKS" it is totally discharged and reads as so.

There are programs on the web (can't advertize for pay programs or give you links to them - against the rules) - that will re-vitalize your battery to almost new condition by discharging it more and more till it is truly fully discharged, then will fill it back to like new charge time.

Or you can buy a new battery.

I had a similar problem which I fixed by charging the battery with an external power supply set to current limit at 1amp and 12.6volts. After several hours the current dropped to near zero and the battery now works fine in my laptop.

Hi,

The wireless switch is at the front side of your Lenovo 3000 N100. (see pic.1). Press Fn+F5 to confirm if your wireless switch is on. If required, switch on the physical switch for your wireless connection.

Hi. I think the LCD screen of your laptop needs a replacement because I think the backlight on that LCD is already busted thats why you need to point a flashlight or some sort of light just to see the display. Powerdraining your computer wont work because this already a hardware issue with the LCD, that's why when you switch display with your monitor it works fine. I would suggest replacing the LCD of that laptop or try calling Lenovo tech support if your laptop still under warranty so that they would replace it for free. This is no. to contact for your Lenovo laptop US/Canada 1-800-426-7378, Australia 1-300-880-917. Hope this Helps

Just reconnect the ac adapter without the battery and switch on the lap. Presto.. Problem solved.. It doesnt power off anymore unless u remove the ac adaptor. Usefull if u hav needed files n want 2 create a backup. Still i havent found out a permanent solution to this problem. I suspect its a motherboard fault

Lenovo 3000 Notebooks : N100 Power Failure!

Radalin -
I've done a lot of laptop repair, and have run into similar issues with various laptops. What you've described sounds to me like a problem in the power circuit on the motherboard. There are a number of things that can cause this, and, generally, none of them are an easy fix - blown capacitor, bad power IC, bridged leads on a relay. If you have any experience working with integrated circuits, you can always test the power loop on the laptop with a multimeter. However, you may want to look into obtaining a warranty repair, or purchasing an extended warranty so that you can get a warranty repair; if there has been no user error(i.e. fluids spilled on the computer, dropped computer, left in excessive heat or humidity), then its a factory defect on the motherboard.

Hope this helps!
