Download the drivers for your video card from the mauafacturer website while in 640x480. Try and install the software. If this don't work right click on "My Computer" click "Properties" click on the "Hardware" tab then click on "Device Manager" you will need to find your video card and uninstall it then reinstall the new software. If this does not solve your issue you should pick-up another card and install it with software included in box.
Hope this helps.

Make sure that your software, that you view your pictures with, falls into the 'box format' of 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024, etc. Background pictures are typically streched to fit the wider screens. You can change that by right clicking on your desktop.. in XP it is the 2nd tab, on the right side, you can choose stretch or ? Some will give you black bars but no skewing. Then you can adjust your monitor's resolution downward to enlarge your pictures, or leave it at a higher resolution if you don't mind the borders. -DellTech1

Using Windows XP with a terrible, terrible video card. Will not go above 640x480 resolution. Only has 8mb video ram and Windows won't let me raise past that. Was wondering if there was any way to force...

if windows does not have the correct driver for the graphics card the resolution may be stuck at a "safe" setting, try downloading and installing a graphics driver, if the graphics card is very old and its maximum resolution actually is 640x480 there is no way other than replacing the card to achieve a higher resolution

It says it will work on my windows xp like my other games but it really does not. How can I fix that?

The monitor resolution is higher in XP, the Game was developed for OS Win98/ME.
It will play on WinXP but you have to reset your monitor "Resolution" to 640x480 @ "256 color"

Hope it will help.

I connected my ps3 to my viewsonic vx2235wm and it says out of range or wont have a picture

The PS3 video output setting is too high for the monitor to handle, native resolution for this Viewsonic is 1680x1050. Try running the PS3 at 640x480 first and start changing the resolution to higher level.

Pixels only goes to 640X480

When you cannot increase the screen resolution nor a higher color bit, this usually means the video driver has defaulted to standard VGA driver and 8 or 16 bit color.
Install or re-install the latest video driver for your model video card.
When the correct video driver is installed you will be able to change the screen resolution and 32 color bit.

Black colour displaying become greenish and narrow vertical lines

Most LCD monitors have a default refresh rate of 60 Hz. Older monitors also have limited resolution. Please check your display settings and ensure you're not using a refresh rate higher than 60, or a resolution higher than what it supports. If either one is the case, you're lucky the LCD still works.

I can not get the higher resolution on my Acer 22in X223W

Monitors have Max resolution. What you call VGA is not really VGA, the standard for VGA is 640X480, SVGA is 800X600 and XGA is 1024X768. VGA and DVI are capable of different "GAs". Consequently you are not able to go beyond the capabilities of your monitor. Right-Click on a blank area of your Desktop and click on Properties. Then click on the Settings tab. Move the slide all the way to the right and that will be the maximum resolution for your monitor.
