Question about Danby Air Conditioners

1 Answer

I have a Simplicity dehumidifier/humidifier model SHCC6026 by Danby, bought new, used 2 months last summer as a dehumidifier, was emptied and dryed before storing for the winter. On start up this summer, I get an E5 error. Bucket is empty and nothing appears wrong but unit will not function. Just beeps with E5. I can not find my owners manuel to trouble shoot. Please help. Thank you.

I contacted the Danby Co. and found out the unit was still under warranty. They gave me the name of a local repair shop who replaced the float sensor "free of charge".
Thank you for your time and interest. If I have another problem later I will be in touch with you.

I have a Danby DPAC10071 which has been running well for 4 years. It is only used on AC mode. In all that time I never had to empty the external tank. All of a sudden now that tank fills up every 24 hrs...

In AC mode, the unit still has some dehumidifying properties. So, it may be that there is more humidity in the air this Summer, than in prior years. Having to empty the tank every 24 hours is not unusual. Be sure that the air intake filter is clean & check the exhaust hose for obstructions.

Hope this helped you & thanks fr choosing FixYa.

Eugene, first, let me say, yours is one of the best narratives, of what is happening with your ,that I have read in a long time. You didn't leave me guessing as to what was going on.

I believe one of the problems is that you may be operating the AC Cooling & the Dehumidifier at the same time. If this is the case, the dehumidifier is generating heat, when it's operating and the AC cooling side is working at a lower rate, because the dehumidifier is in operation. Discontinue the use of the dehumidifier on extremely hot days and use only the AC Cooling mode. The AC mode also acts somewhat as a dehumidifier. That's why draining the water tank is required for AC mode too.

I would also be prudent to check the exhaust hoses to make sure they are not clogged or have been bent out of shape. Keeping the air intake filter clean is really important, too.

Aside from the air conditioner, other things can be done to help cool the room. Close all drapes or blinds to block the sun from directly heating the room. This is especially true, if the AC unit is sitting in direct sunlight. If you have a ceiling fan, operate it it as fast as you can stand, in a Clockwise direction. This not only keeps air moving, it also helps the AC unit and creates a windchill, that fools your body into thinking it's cooler than it really is. Personally, I have been doing this for years and have saved a ton of money on electric bills during the summer.

I hope I have been able to help you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have the portable danby premiere #317825 model#DPAC11010 its the 3-1 portable air conditioner we just got it last summer and today for the 2nd time in the last month it is shutting its self off there is...

The water is being removed from the air, you need to empty the water out of the unit as needed, sometimes as often as every two hours, the beeping is a water tank full alarm telling you to empty the tank as per instructions, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the unit you may want to move the unit to a drain until you know the amount of water the tank holds so you know how big of a containor to use

The dehumidifier tank is bone dry. It was fine last summer. I assume that the dehumidifier is history. My main concern is re safety. Where would the condensation from the A/C go? The unit is ten years...

In your case, the condensation generated by the AC is split between the exhaust duct and one of the water collection tanks. The unit should warn you or shut down, when the tank is full and needs to be drained. But, at 10 years old, I'd monitor is regularly.

Is it possible to use the airconditioning and dehumidify at the same time?

yes of course ,the airconditioning actually condiontions the air just like a humidifier,as though a humidifier takes moistures out of the air.an the a/c supplies the cooler dry air ...so your answer is yes it okay to run both systems.

I have a danby model DPAC5799 was given to me with no manual i would like to use the dehumidifer in the basement ...how do i set it

You don't need to have an external exhaust if you are going to use it as a dehumidifier. Go to the mode button and click it until it goes to dry and then set the temperature a lower than the room. This should be all you need to do. I have had mine running all day and the room seems dry however I have had very little water (almost none) to empty from the reservoir. I don't know if this is a problem but maybe you can let me know how yours performs.

Leaking

Is there a condensate trap in the line before the discharge?
Also is the orifice or near it cracked?
With all the movement and expansion and contraction due to the temperature changes in the seasons and conditions, there might be a crack somewhere else.
Be ready with a Wax Ring for a toilet ( a new one ).
They usually seal it up fairly well.
Works for me until I can get a new pan.
God Bless.

Seems fully operational but not blowing cold air

Sounds like you may have a small leak in the sealed system. If you don't have the receipt, contact the factory and provide them with your model and serial numbers, and if they fall within the warranty manufacture date, you should be able to get any Danby factory authorized service center to repair it for you, in accordance with the factory warranty policy.
