The brake light and ABS light comes on at the same time. What could the trouble be please?

Hello Pamela

All questions in this category need 'year make model'. This is what Lexus say! You need to get the vehicle on a scan tool to diagnose the fault.

If both the ABS and the brake system light come on at the same time, your vehicle is no longer safe to drive. This means there is a serious problem with the car's braking system and continuing to drive puts yourself and others at risk.

Why is my ABS and break light on?

Year/make/model?? The brake light will normally come on with the ABS light if there is a malfunction within the ABS system. You will need to have a scan test performed on the ABS module to see what codes are present that will provide a basis for diagnostics and correct from there. The hydraulic brake system will function normally, however, the anti-lock portion of the brake system will be inoperative as long as the ABS light remains on

Why brake light, abs light and trac control light on?

You will have some idea of the system that has
a fault, once you get your codes & look them up.

The ABS Systems has to be component tested to
find a problem

I could answer every question the same

Same procedure we have been using for 33 years

You will need professional scan tool, to get into the abs
module, for those codes, some at least

I removed my abs system on my 95 gt mustang and now no brakes

You can not remove the ABS hydraulic control module from cars that come with it. Cars without ABS have a device called a proportioning valve. This valve is designed to supply 70% of the stopping power to the front brakes and the remaining 30% to the rear. Without this valve, the rear brakes would constantly be locking up. On cars with ABS, that valve is built into the ABS unit. Your only other option is to obtain and install the master cylinder and proportioning valve from the version of your car that came without ABS. FYI, some cars come with ABS as standard equipment, so there would be no variant without ABS. It's to late for your current ABS unit, however you need to know that you are supposed to flush your brake fluid every two years. Failure to do this causes a build up of moisture in the fluid. Automotive brake fluids absorb moisture from the air. The system is not totally sealed. The cap on the fluid reservoir has a tiny vent hole in it, needed for the fluid to flow into and out of the master cylinder. This is how the moisture gets absorbed. This moisture corrodes the inside of all the hydraulic parts of the system. Brake fluid when new is either clear or the color of ginger ale [pale yellow] as it ages, it darkens. After two years, it starts to turn brown. It will be totally black after 4 to 5 years. Failure to flush the fluid every two years damages your brake's hydraulic system components. Flush the fluid every two years and NONE of the hydraulic components will go bad.

The left rear wheel is locked up

This can be caused by a defective anti lock brake system ABS for short, this year has active ABS, this means the system can apply hydraulic pressure to the brakes with the driver never touching the brake pedal, if the valve that controls this pressure to the wheel leaks or sticks the brakes will lock up. To confirm this release pressure at the wheel by opening the brake caliper bleeder valve at the top of the brake caliper with the engine off. If the wheel spins free after the pressure is released you will need the ABS checked and quite possibly a new ABS hydraulic control unit. This type of failure is very rare but it does happen

I have a dodge caravan that has the ABS and the BRAKE light on the pedal is rally hard but it goes away once in a while for like a day and all over again

Dodge used an ABS system for 2 years that didn't have a vacuum booster. Instead it used ABS pressure from the pump motor for the power brakes. This is the system you have. The ABS pump is mounted on top of the transmission. Is the pump running when the pedal is hard to push? Sometimes the pressure sensor in the ABS module will go bad and the pump won't run. You will get a hard pedal and the ABS light and the BRAKE lights will be on. The code in the ABS control module will be LOW BRAKE ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE.

Abs light on in my ford ranger 1999

ABS light tells you that there is some problem with the brake system like you have forgot to release the emergency brake or its time for you to change the brake fluid. Ford recommends to change the brake fluid every year.If you have recently refilled the brake fluid , check for any leaks.Abs light indicates that your braking system needs to be serviced.

Cannot figure out if my daughters 1996 MX6LS/MEdition has disc brakes or ABS breaks. How can I tell Thanks

Disc brakes and ABS are two totally different things. ABS is a computer system that keeps the brakes from locking up on you. Disc brakes are a type of brake system. The front are disc brakes and the rears are either disc or drum brakes.

My 93 caravan 3.3 has abs can i disconnect the system, and go regular brakes.no problem now,i bought used a month ago,and afraid of future repair cost,on standard brakes i can fix,but not abs.please help,

Yes this is an acceptable quick fix if you can stand the ABS light on. You now have non ABS standard power brakes. Folks survived without ABS for many years. I personally hate ABS systems.
