Apple mac mini/Mistar Midilink

I too can't get my MIDI keyboard - a Yamaha PSR500 - to talk to the Mac using this device. I've tried all 16 channels to no avail. Does it need a driver? The only device the Mac sees is some oriental-sounding name beginning with T. Is this the Mistar Midilink?

i have a mac mini and am trying to use GarageBand from iLife to record my music from a yamaha keyboard. I've plugged it all in, but GarageBand doesn't register. I've noticed that MiStar seems to have no website. Does anyone know contact details?

When I first used it I had the same problem. But if you make sure the midilink OUT is connected to your keyboard IN and the IN to the OUT it might well work - mine did! It worked a treat in garageband. I am having problems now when the mac tells me that the usb device i.e. the link is taking too much power and is disconnecting it! oh well...

I bought an old Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB Hard Drive, OS X Yosemite, with serial # C07CS2TPDD6H. What adapter cord could I use to connect it to an iBox C1752, TFT LCD Monitor?

That Mac has a hdmi port and a mini display port. The monitor has a saga port. So ether a hdmi-svga. Or miniDisplay port-svga.

Any usb keyboard will work. So any Mac keyboard newer than 12 years should be good, and newer pic keyboards will work. Beware of older keyboards that have round plugs. On macs these were ADB ports. On PC's, they used PS2 (ADB, ps2, usb are all different, you want the flat rectangle USB)

U.S. pc keyboards also have two modifier keys wired different than the U.S. Mac keyboards, but this can be adjusted in the system preferences. Can't say for non U.S. KBs. They are the windows/alt keys. Vs Opt/Command keys. That is, if you are soused to using a Mac, the key that is closest to the spacebar (command key) is applied by the second key over rather than the first. Again, this can be modified in the Sys Prefs.

Why can my friends not hear me talking to them on Skype?

On a Mac mini made in 2010 or later, you'll need to use an external microphone to communicate as they're not built in. Plugging in a pair of Apple EarPods or headphones into the headphone jack should work just fine.

USB microphones will also do the trick (but you'll need to adjust some audio settings in Skype).

Hope this helps!

Hey Ronald!

To be able to load music onto your Bluetooth Headset, you're going to first want to connect the headset with your Mac! To do this use the following steps:

Step 1: Click on the Apple logo in the upper left of the Mac, then choose System Preferences. Inside of System Preferences, choose Bluetooth.

Step 2: This screen should show a list of Bluetooth devices connected. Make sure the "Bluetooth is Turned On" on the Mac. You can toggle it on the left side. Make sure the Headset is currently turned off.

Step 3: Once the Headset is turned off and the Bluetooth on the Mac is turned on, turn on your Bluetooth Headset to place it into Discovery Mode. Keep an eye on your Devices list because once it appears, select it from this list.

Step 4: After it's been chosen from this list, you will now have it as an Output Audio device. You can always double check this in System Preferences in the Sounds section, on the Output tab.

Next, we want to be able to play music through that Bluetooth Headset. Go ahead and open up iTunes or try playing a video on the Mac Mini to ensure the audio is received!

I have linked two articles from the Apple Support website which may offer some additional assistance:

OS Mavericks Use Bluetooth headset with your computer

Good Luck!

Where is the underscore key on a MAC MINI?

That would depend on which keyboard layout you have. A standard keyboard would have it 2 keys left of the backspace, activate with the shift key.

Hi. My mac mini started to get really slow. Now I notice the hard drive is filling up with something. 95 Gb was available - now only 75. iANtivirus did not pick up anything. Though it feels like a worm to...

It sounds like something is either corrupted on your system or one of the files in your mac mini may be suspect. What I would suggest is get your system disc boot the mac mini down holding down the c key on your keyboard. Remember to back up before you do this. Once it is booted up go to the file menu and find the disk utility. Open up the disk utility and first of all repair your disk permissions and then run disk verify and if an error comes up repair it.

Also download Onyx from this website which also talks you through the method of using it. I use it every month just to keep my mac in tip top condition.

If neither of these pieces of advice work. I would suggest installing a clean system. Again with the system disk in your computer restart your machine with the c key held down on your keyboard. Choose to do an install but remember to select preserve users. This will give you a clean instal with your files and preferences intact.

Hope this helps.

Connecting Yamaha piano (YDP-131) to imac g5

You want to go into your AUDIO/MIDI set up in OS X. Selet the unit. YOu have a MAC so most itmes dont needs drivers, its one of the many great things that separate that operating systems from say windows. Also your yamaha may be CLASS COMPLIANT, which means plug and play no matter what computer you are using.

What you should do is make sure the keyboard is set to send on the same channel as garageband is set to receive.

Keep me posted.
