Apple mac mini/Mistar Midilink

I too can't get my MIDI keyboard - a Yamaha PSR500 - to talk to the Mac using this device. I've tried all 16 channels to no avail. Does it need a driver? The only device the Mac sees is some oriental-sounding name beginning with T. Is this the Mistar Midilink?

i have a mac mini and am trying to use GarageBand from iLife to record my music from a yamaha keyboard. I've plugged it all in, but GarageBand doesn't register. I've noticed that MiStar seems to have no website. Does anyone know contact details?

When I first used it I had the same problem. But if you make sure the midilink OUT is connected to your keyboard IN and the IN to the OUT it might well work - mine did! It worked a treat in garageband. I am having problems now when the mac tells me that the usb device i.e. the link is taking too much power and is disconnecting it! oh well...

I bought an old Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB Hard Drive, OS X Yosemite, with serial # C07CS2TPDD6H. What adapter cord could I use to connect it to an iBox C1752, TFT LCD Monitor?

That Mac has a hdmi port and a mini display port. The monitor has a saga port. So ether a hdmi-svga. Or miniDisplay port-svga.

Any usb keyboard will work. So any Mac keyboard newer than 12 years should be good, and newer pic keyboards will work. Beware of older keyboards that have round plugs. On macs these were ADB ports. On PC's, they used PS2 (ADB, ps2, usb are all different, you want the flat rectangle USB)

U.S. pc keyboards also have two modifier keys wired different than the U.S. Mac keyboards, but this can be adjusted in the system preferences. Can't say for non U.S. KBs. They are the windows/alt keys. Vs Opt/Command keys. That is, if you are soused to using a Mac, the key that is closest to the spacebar (command key) is applied by the second key over rather than the first. Again, this can be modified in the Sys Prefs.

I just got my first MP can i use my mac ibook that i have a program call Reaper. i know i have to have scsi but can use a midi to do the same??? thanx

Your Mac should detect your MIDI keyboard automatically. To make sure of this, open "Audio MIDI Setup" and click "Show MIDI Window" in the "Window" menu. In that window you should see your Akai listed as one of the MIDI devices.

Now, open Reaper and open "Preferences". Find the "MIDI Devices" section on the left side and make sure the Akai is listed on the right side. Then make sure that inputs and outputs are enabled.

Once that is done, Reaper will allow your Akai as recording input on any track.

Check the Reaper manual for more specifics on recording in Reaper.

PSRE323 - is there a way to specify what midi channel is used for midi out, how do you do it. Manual didn't seem to specify anything.

How they expect you to find the information is beyond me!!! I downloaded the manual and it appears that the information you want is on page 57.

Near the bottom, and the only way I spotted the parameter of MIDI channel number setting is seeing the range as 1 to 16.

They list this as L part and R part channel/track setting... these will be for the left and right parts of the split keyboard... that is you can set a MIDI channel to between 1 and 16 for both the left and right division of the split keyboard.

I don't think many people would find this... AND shame on Yamaha, there doesn't seem to be a MIDI implementation chart, which you should get familiar with for any MIDI devices you might have... the chart is a quick access to the MIDI capability of MIDI devices and they didn't include one in the documentation for this unit...

Have a casio px 320 and trying to use it in GarageBand on my Mac OS X. Connecting USB cable from USB output on Casio to USB input on Mac doesn't work. Any help?

use the audio output to send the keyboards internal patch sounds, or use a usb midi adapter to use the keyboard to trigger the garageband midi sounds, if the keyboard has a midi output, that is. the usb output requires software drivers to use, and IS NOT mac compatible. You may have to select a midi source in garage band preferences or settings if you are using midi.

Roland RD-700SX as MIDI keyboard

Theres a good article at recordingreview.com. If you join which is free you have access to a lot of great information. You can download Midiox to troubleshoot your midi connections etc. Make sure that your transmit channel on your keyboard matches up with the receive channel in your program. Hope this helps.

Notes don't stop even after I release the key

The keyboard  is not sending a note off instruction after the key is released. Try checking midi preferences in reason. If your using a Mac check that the edirol is present by launching Audio MIDI Setup utility located in the utilities folder. You can download the latest Mac driver from Roland below: EDIROL PCR-300 32-key MIDI Keyboard Controller :: Download

Connecting Yamaha piano (YDP-131) to imac g5

You want to go into your AUDIO/MIDI set up in OS X. Selet the unit. YOu have a MAC so most itmes dont needs drivers, its one of the many great things that separate that operating systems from say windows. Also your yamaha may be CLASS COMPLIANT, which means plug and play no matter what computer you are using.

What you should do is make sure the keyboard is set to send on the same channel as garageband is set to receive.

Keep me posted.
