Question about Computers & Internet

Just got a new Dell XPS 1730 Laptop and the Numeric Keypad doesn't work. Yes, the NumLock key is on.... I heard that some newer BIOS has a setting to for this, but I can't find anything in Setup. Any ideas?

Hmm, if the numpad is actually a part of the laptop then i suggest you to conact their support line even if its ****. the dell bios is extremely strict and doesnt have many options.

I have a keyboard problem - typing a question mark etc produces weird characters - looks like a numlock problem but my Dell XPS 15 has no numlock key - thanks in advance, driving me nuts :)

There should be a num lock key on you computer. You may have to push the fn key located by the windows and the alt key on the bottom left of your computer. And this will give keys other functions. So look again for num lock in small righting on one of the keys

On Windows, the Alt key functions as a modifier like the Shift key. To make special characters, hold down the Alt key and type in the numbers from the numeric keypad. Note that on the some small keyboards (e.g. laptop keybaords) the “numeric keypad” is found by pressing the NumLock key and then looking for the keys on your keyboard that double as numeric keypad keys when in NumLock mode.

Keyboard is stuck in numeric mode. Can't type

On the Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 there is a key located on the top right next to the F12 function key called "NumLk" or Num Lock.
Press this key once and the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
Press it a second time and it is disabled.
How do you know if it is enabled or disabled?
Simple: Observe the LED above the keyboard. If the second light with the square symbol and the number "1" is lit up, then the NumLock is enabled. If that LED is not lit up it is disabled.

Good Luck.

How do i activate and lock my Fn keys

Unlike previous models, The 1545 has no imbedded Numeric Keypad, so there is no NUMLOCK option.
For numerics, you will have to use the numbers above the QWERTY row.
SCROLL LOCK was also eliminated from the 1545 keyboard (Legacy item, seldom used)
If you need a numeric keypad and/or Scroll Lock, then an external keyboard may be an option.

Num Lk won't work

Press F2 when booting to access the BIOS and look for the numlock setting. There are options as to how the numlock behaves. Change this setting to your preference, save your changes and restart.
