Heating Element

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element might have burned out. The heating element heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

How do I take the dash apart to change the blower switch on a 2001 Mustang? I can not find a diagram or maunual that shows how to do this, can you recomend?

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the control panel assembly from the instrument panel.

A special tool, such as the one shown, is necessary to disengage the temperature control cable from the back of the control panel

    Temperature control cable component identification

  3. Carefully lift the lock tab to detach the temperature cable from the control door shaft.
  4. Note the cable routing, then remove the cable from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Route the cable behind the instrument panel, then engage the alignment pins and attach the temperature cable to the control door shaft until the lock tab snaps into the groove on the shaft.
  2. If necessary, install the instrument panel.
  3. Engage the cable end with the cable actuator on the control assembly. Install the control assembly in the instrument panel.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable and check the system for proper operation.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the snap-in trim molding in the center console to expose the four control assembly attaching screws. Remove the four screws attaching the control assembly to the instrument panel.
  3. Roll the control panel out of the opening in the console.

  4. Detach the temperature control cable from the control panel by using Ford Temperature Cable Disconnect tool T94P-18532-A, or equivalent, to release the side locking tube, and a small flat-bladed prytool to release the top locking tab. Pull the temperature cable away from the heater control.
  5. Remove the two mounting nuts, then separate the vacuum hose and wiring harness connectors from the back of the damper door switch.
  6. Detach the wiring harness connectors from the back of the blower motor switch and the light bulbs.
  7. Remove the control panel from the center console.

. . . and detach the control cable. Detach all wiring harness connectors and remove the panel

To install:

  1. Position the temperature cable at the midpoint of its travel, directly between the H and C markings. Position the temperature control knob at the midpoint of its range, then connect the temperature cable to the geared arm on the blower motor wheel. Rotate the temperature control knob from maximum cold to maximum warm to verify proper range of motion.

Prior to installing the temperature control cable, turn the control knob and the cable indicator to the mid-points of their ranges

  2. Install the electrical connector at the following locations: blower switch, control assembly illumination bulbs and damper door switch.
  3. Install the vacuum harness connector for the function selector knob and tighten the mounting nuts until snug.
  4. Roll the control assembly into position against the instrument panel and install the four attaching screws until snug.
  5. Snap the console trim molding into position, connect the negative battery cable and check the system for proper operation

My oven light blew now my control panel on my stove doesnt light up but the burners work?

I have seen the control panel light fail while the temperature controller still operates. In many floor-standing stoves the control light is operated by a switch inside the temperature controller, so it can fail independently of the temperature control. The 'fix' is to replace the controller. The oven light blowing is more likely coincidental timing rather than being directly connected to the other fault.
