The yellow that I am printing it fading to gray from the outside of the paper. It is still printing yellow in the center but gray everywhere else. Do I need to clean the head and if so how can I do it myself?

Your toner cartridge is probably getting low. Toner is actually a powder, and it can get settled during shipments, bringing it home, etc etc.
Take out the black toner and give it a gentle side-to-side shake a few times and pop it back in.
That should help.
Never clean or touch the Transfer Roller (spongey rooler) unless your using a dry cloth or vaccum as last measure.
Usually the transfer roller sits on a drum/pcu specific to that color. If you can tell which color is sitting on to of the roller replace that drum/pcu.
The voids and blotches can be a bad black pcu, the voids san also be toner on the glass slat obove the pcu,s there are 4 slats one for each color, on the pcu itself on the upper side is a narrow long opening, the glass slat is above this opening when the pcu is in the printer. It will take a flashlight to see any toner on the glass.

I changed out our black photoconductor unit #165 and it solved the problem. Even though the error message did not say that the photoconductor needed changed out, it had been eight months since the last replacement. I hope this helps!
