Question about Computers & Internet
Whenever you buy a pre-built computer, many manufacturers will supply you with the product key for the version of Windows installed onto your computer. This product key may appear in one of several different places, but can typically be found on a sticker attached to the computer case itself. Normally these stickers will have the Windows logo someplace on them, may be multi-colored and have several barcodes printed on readable surfaces. You may also occasionally find duplicates inserted within your owner's manuals or stuck to the sleeve used to protect your computer's recovery CD (if one was provided).
Unfortunately, if you are not able to find the product key in any of these locations the only party that is able to further assist you would be the manufacturer of the computer itself. Most major retailers will not keep track of Windows product keys for the computers that they sell, as they do not normally appear on the external packaging that would appear on store shelves.
The reason why the product key is required is to verify that you have a legal copy of the operating system installed on your computer. Without this key, you may not be allowed to install newer operating systems or receive official updates through the Microsoft support website.
Hope this helps you out.

Often, PCs from e-Machine and other major companies would have a sticker either on the side or at the rear of the desktop that would contain the Microsoft Product Key. Once determined (product key), it is just a matter of replacing the "product key" that is stored in your Windows registry to the real/actual/legitimate as stenciled in said sticker. Recognizing similar concerns, Microsoft has posted a Product Key updater tool for the purpose of legitimate update or replace of the product key. Said utility maybe downloaded/performed from here.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
