Question about Toshiba Equium 7300S PC Desktop

2 Answers

Toshiba Equium I have a Toshiba Equium laptop that is standard apart from Hard drive replaced about 2 years ago. It has been working fine until 2 months ago I was getting a Blue screen that would shut it down after a memory dump (I dont think this is related but will give all info) .This was put down to a corrupt sector on the hard drive, and I was able to get around this by saving all of my info to the hard drive, deleting the profile and setting up a new one. This evening however I was watching a stream on youtube and the laptop had been working fine for about 2 hours when it just turned off without warning. The power light around the on/off button and a green power light on the front stayed on. By pushing the power button I couldnt turn the laptop off even if I held the button down for a period of time. Even shutting the lid would not cause it to hybernate and all other lights (Wireless etc were off). After a bit of playing I found the only way to turn off the power was to unplug the laptop from the mains and remove the battery. When I replace the battery and attempt to turn the laptop on again the same power lights (only) will come on and the fan will start for about 2-3 seconds, but then stop and there will be nothing apart from the power button light and the green power light on the front. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and regards Darren

    I am thinking though that as the problem with the memory dump has not happened for two months or so that this may be unrelated. When I had to replce the hard drive it was due to a corrupt boot sector and it at least tried to boot up and gave information on the screen. However in this instance I have nothing other than the power lights and about 3 seconds of fan.......

Hi,

Initially, pls remove the battery and the the power from the mains for an hour or so. The idea is to dissipate any residual power inside the laptop. Thereafter, pls try the laptop from the mains without the battery. The ides is to determine if the laptop will work and if yes, then there is a probable charging/power issue. Again if it will work from the mains, try it now with the battery. If no further issue, then it was just a glitch, if problem repeats itself, then chances are the battery is so depleted that it is getting most of the output of the AC power adapter under powering the laptop. Another possible action is to try and recharge the battery with the laptop off for say overnight.

Other than the above, all other diagnostic/repair would involve opening the unit for a look & see. This of course would require a bit of familiarity with electronics and components, use of a DVM and even perhaps a soldering iron. Based on this you might be better off seeking the services of a qualified professional.

Of course other things that could be tried are:
1. cleaning the ventilation holes with the use of a can of compressed air;
2. removing/re-seating the memory as well as cleaning the little gold tips with the use of a pencil eraser;
3. visual inspection of any component underneath (LANcard, WiFi card, memory sticks, others and/or anything out of the ordinary).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

This could be a hard drive crash, however, I just repaired a machine that had a similar issue. A loose connection an the board was prompting the machine to blue screen, and then shutdown all together. I had to tear the machine completely down to find it.

My toshiba equium A100-027 is very slow,how can I speed up it's response to simple tasks?

1. Try install Diskmax http://www.koshyjohn.com/software/diskmax. It's a free application that cleans and defragments your hard drive. It should help make your pc more responsive. Works for me.

2. Consider Upgrading - That is a very old low spec laptop, you should consider upgrading if it's response to simple tasks are time consuming

I just replaced the mobo in a Toshiba l555d s7910 laptop. It worked fine for about 2 months and now it wont power on. NO lights no anything. I have used 2 different power supplies one of which I know...

you should test or replace all leads make sure they are securely seated and are not bad/faulty that are attached to your (((motherboard to your hard drive))

one bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))

hope this helps

There has been a lot of talk around this computer lately about the same problem you are having. It has something to do with the plug that plugs into the mother board it self.

Toshiba Equium 3200m hard disk upgrade

From all of the specs, it appears that is motherboard only supports up to a 20GB drive. The way to add this drive is to buy a separate hard drive controller, but honestly that is a waste of money. By the time you finished adding pieces and parts to get everything to work, you will have replaced so much that you could buy a new system and alos have issues wiht some things not working.
Dell has a low end desktop for on $399 and you can find some things even less than that in their refurb section, with a warranty, for less.

Bios says no ide device found (hard frive missing?)

If the BIOS is not detecting your hard drive, then there are two possible suspects here. Could just be your hard drive or it also be your motherboard.

If you have already reseated your hard drive and memory and the symptoms are still the same, then go to the nearest local computer shop that sells HP. Have them try a known-good hard drive on your system. If it works, purchase a new hard drive. If it doesn't work, your mobo needs to be replaced.

It has only been 2 and a half months sinse i bought my toshiba equium A300D series laptop. Once i have fully charged my laptop i only have a hour to use until it needs charging again. I never had this...

this happens to every laptop after a while, although after only 2 months it should be ok, you may need to send it back under guarantee, but remember you will have more things running now then when you first had it, using more processor power and also any usb peripherals youve added also shorten battery life.
