I am having this problem ALL the Time.

Often they will work for say 20 mins and then stop when there is still half full of ink.

How can it recognise it for so long and then decide that it can not?

Changed all four cartridges with genuina Epson cartridges but printer does not recognize them; it seems to be the Black one.
I have e-mailed Tech Support and I am waiting reply...

I've had the same problem with EVERY cartridge I've bought. I cant believe that all the chips are faulty. I've disabled the status monitor, which gave some respite over 'ink levels empty' false diagnosis, and my local shop tells me to take out the cartridge for a few minutes and then replace, and that should reset it.. but it doesnt. Are there chip-resetters for this cartridge, as I wish I had repaired my CX3200 now, much better printer all round. Any advice please. Its not 5% of faulty chips, its something more fundamental to the hardware/software build (I think).

Exactly same problem with my Dx8400, does't recognise a brand new set of cartridges, AGAIN!!! I did read somewhere under reviews, that someone had to take it to a dealer who "reset?" the printer. Anyone any ideas how this is done?

I bought some compatible cartridges for my DX8400 yesterday and after printing 4 pictures its rejecting them - which was why I bought new cartridges in the first place!

  • mikeytrav Feb 05, 2009

ive got same problem.... im putting ink in, and its lasting for 2 or 3 prints. Then saying that it cant recognise them.

ive been told by a friend at a computer shop that the service utility for the newer dx range isnt available, and that reseting the printer is the only known fix.

It is most likely a faulty chip, return the cartridge to the supplier for a replacement. In my experience as many as 5% of compatible cartriges are faulty

Have Epson DX8400. Have tried to to replace the black ink cartridge with Epsons own ink:0711, but printer will not accept. Have tried with a different make but still no joy. Had printer for 2 1/2 years and...

The cartridges are chipped, you have to use all genuine epson or an equivalent with the correct chips. Not all replacement carts are correctly chipped. If you do have genuine cartridges fitted remove them all and clean the gold chip part with a soft tissue and firmly seat the carts. Hope that helps.

Printing in just black and white

Epson,. has it rigged, that you must have ink in all the cartridges.............! Doesnt make a difference, if you are printing black and white ONLY.

You have to replace them.

Good Luck......

Epson Stylus DX 8400

If ink cartridge Unrecognizable, there are two posibilities : Chip Error at ink tank, or printer error. For chip error, try to plug the ink tank to another printer (same type). If the ink tank recognized by other printer, so the problem is printer.
So ;
1. Check chip conector at head carriage.
2. Check the wiring of the head, and chip.
If two point above is ok, the last action is check the power supply and board. It may be epprom is damage.

It sounds like you have incompatible cartridges for your printer... Some folks have reported that disabling the Status monitor and turning the printer off/on, plus rebooting the computer can solve this but that's just something I've heard.

You may want to double check with the ink supplier that they have provided the correct cartridges for your DX rather than a CX model.

Epson DX8400 does not recognise ink cartridge

on the ink cartridges there should be a little gold chip on them if they dont have that then your printer will not recognise the ink my best bet for you is to buy cheep and reliable placement epson ink or you can buy these ink cartriges which have tubes which feed ink into these replacement cartridges and i have got one of these my self and i would recomend these to anyone

Epson DX8400: how can i get it to print black only

Sorry Desperate. All inkjet printers, from all companies,  are programed to only operate with ink in all containers to avoid other problems. Their is no workaround. Please rate me not harshly just  because you don't like the answer. Rate based upon the truth of an answer.

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Compatible ink cartridges dx8400

Epson cartridges are microchipped.

Do your new cartridges carry the same chip?

If not, they will not work.

If all else fails, return them to the supplier and explain they are not recognised by your printer.

Epson CX5400

Nothing wrong with the printer. The rubbish cartridge you bought and replace it with one that works. Approx 30% of most compatible/refilled cartridges DO NOT WORK.

Not only that but they WILL block your print head nozzles eventually. Ever wonder why Epson do NOT make any flushing cartridges but almost every compatible "maker" does??

99% sure the cart is at fault. return it to where you bought it and get a swap.
