Bad ADSL modem at your ISP's end?
Deteriorated twisted-pair wires from the telephone-pole to the demarcation box on the outside of your home?
Dying ADSL modem inside your home?
First, try a different ADSL modem.
Then, call your Internet Service Provider, and get them to trouble-shoot.
Finally, switch to a cable-modem provider.
VPN connections are encrypted, this adds extra overhead to the connection and an extra place all data must route through.
Once connected to a VPN your speed is determined by the slowest connection between you and your end point (The site you're visiting, or the service you are using)
For example:
If your home / business connection is a 20mb but your VPN is a 1MB connection, then your speed is going to be less then 1mb once you connect through the VPN.
Encrypted traffic is usually a bit slower, however if you feel speeds are far slower then they should be, you will need to contact the vpn service provider and see if any settings in your VPN software can be changed to speed things up.
Is this Belkin Wireless N a Gateway / Router or is it a Wireless Access Point WAP¿ If it is a Gateway it is most likely not getting the inbound packets from the VPN since you are most likely using the same octets in the Sonic Wall VPN as well in the Gateway. I would recommend finding a WAP to link the wired world (the LAN and your VPN) and the wireless world everyone else you want to have access to your wireless signal. At this point I would recommend that you ensure your security is adequate since at this time the Wireless world has access to your VPN.
A flashing ADSL light on the router means its not getting constant broadband signals. Make sure it is connected to the adsl filter without any extensions and the filter should be directly connect to the main phone socket and not to an extension socket. Also check if the phone socket has 1 or more than 1 ports on it. If it has two port its most likely a SSFP socket which does not require a filter as it is inbuit. If all the connections are fine try changing da filter.
