Connect to router
access router by inserting it's address into address bar
-- if you don't know address, open command prompt and perform "ipconfig /all" command, without quotes, at the flashing cursor

the router ip address is equal to the default gateway/dhcp server address, usually 192.168.x.x

once logged into router, after successfully entering the username/password, you can secure router by changing the default password for accessing the router interface and any other setting you feel needs to be changed.

Wanna know how to secure my belkin wireless G router.

Setting the router's administrator password

All Belkin Router's ship without an admin password. If you require an admin password then follow the below instructions.

Setup steps:

  1. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.
  2. Open a web browser on the computer.
  3. In the address bar of the web browser, type http://192.168.2.1
  4. Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
    login.jpg
  5. Click on System Settings under Utilities on the left-hand side of the opened page.
    systemsettings.jpg
  6. You will see a feature called, "Administrator Password". Type in your current password (default leave blank).
    .adminpwd.jpg
  7. Click "Apply Changes". Your new password is now active.

Note: Do not forget the new password and keep it somewhere safe. If you forget your password, you'll be unable to access your router's settings. If you forget or lose your password, you'll need to "Perform a hardware reset on the router". This will reset the password to its default, as well as erase any and all other settings you may have changed

How do i block someone from illegally stealing my wireless intern

Hello,

You have two options to stop someone from stealing your wireles connection.

The first is to use a more secure encryption.
Use WPA2 personnal with AES encryption.
You can set this security mode by logging on to your router and changinhg the wireless security.

The next solution is to turn on MAC filtering and make sure her computer is not listed as a safe MAC address.
This is also turned on from the router.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Pat

Belkin F5D7234-4 i have great connection but

  1. A very useful tool to use for wireless issues is xirrus, http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php If you can copy the program onto the PC install and run, this test if your adapter is working and also will display all the networks broadcasting in your area. and what channel they are using. If you are also using one of the same channels it may be interfernace - Have a look at the channels being used - loginto the router and change channel to one that is not used - try and use channel 1 or 6 or 11
  2. Wireless Security:- Loginto the router, this may seem difficult, but its really straight forward, - however you will need to know how to login into your make of Router - A manual cna be found here http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/list/q/routers/ choose, G in first drop down and then the model in the second dropdown. That will explain how to login. Once you have logged into the router main page, goto the wireless section and remove any wireless security, this maybe a simply as a box and click disable. --- Now see if the machine run faster on the wireless. This may be a direct link to the manual http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/detail/p/387
  3. safemode:- Try to boot the PC into "safe mode with networking". To do this switch the PC on and now as it starts keep tapping the F8 key untill a menu appears, from that menu choose "safe mode with networking". If that now connects at a fast speeds - post back a comment and if that's the case, We can try doing a "clean boot" and try to identify the startup or process that is causing the issue
  4. It may be you need a firmaware upgrade from here http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/301 also includes instructions on how to do the upgrade. This may be a direct link to the firmware http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/detail/p/387

No, you're not safe.
Disconnect your router from your cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Reset your router to "factory settings", which _are_ safe.

Reset belkin router F5D7230-4 to factory defaults

There is a small button in the back of your F5D7230_4 Belkin router. you need a pencil to push it for some seconds.

All your router setting will return to default. (Username:Admin, Password:Admin).

If security has been enabled on the router, the security will be removed when the F5D7230_4 router is reset to the factory settings. This means, anyone can connect to your Wi-Fi signal until you set up router security again.

SETTING UP SECURITY ON A BELKIN F5D7231-4 ROUTER

I would imagine your router is already set up for optimum security by default.
As long as you are having no problems then there may be no need to change any settings.
If you need to change any settings, for example opening a port for p2p filesharing then you can open the router menu in an internet explorer window by typing its IP address in the IE address box.
Routers normally ignore all incoming connection attempts but allow all outgoing communications and the responses that those communications request. The only reason you might want to change this is to allow outsiders to access the files on the computers in your secured network.
If you require more specific help then please ask!
