Question about GE GSS22KGMBB / GSS22KGMWW / GSS22KGMCC Side by Side Refrigerator
I'm an appliance technician in Wy, but can't seem to find out why a GE fridge keeps frosting up. The heater and limit are good, so I replaced the control board. It frosted up again, so I checked continuity at the control board through the defrost circuit to eliminate wiring issues. I had continuity, so I thought maybe I got a bad board and replaced it again. She just called back and said it's frosting up again. Any ideas??
I just fixed the same problem. Here is the solution. It is 2 parts:
First, the doors on these models are defective. They are not insulated so cool air escapes, causing freezer to keep running thus burning out defrost element.
Replace defrost element. Then, drill holes, on the inside of each door, starting at the top and then every 1 foot down, in the center of the door. Buy 2 cans of the spray insulating foarm from your local home depot. Fill inside of door to insulate them. Wipe away any over fill.
This will make it like new again. GE really botch this one up. There was a class action suit for new doors 2 years ago. I missed it and so did your customer.

I guess the first thing i would check is to make sure the control board is getting a proper ground. next i would manually put it in defrost (while it is still frosted) and make sure the heater is glowing red hot. other than that i would have to suspect another bad board? let me know how it turns out

If there is no cooling at all , before we go further we must confirm the first step of confirming the compressor and gas pressure. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts check if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.
