Adapter

I bought this dock to use with both my iPod Nano and my boyfriend's Classic iPod. When I pulled it out of the box, I immediately popped the Nano adapter on it, and now I can't get it off. Is it supposed to be removable and I'm just not doing it right or is it a permanent attachment?
