Transfer memory from hard drive

Two choices:

You can remove the memory card (if any) and connect the camera to a computer using the USB connection.

A better method is to use the camera's Copy command to copy the pictures from the internal memory to a memory card, then plug the card into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB) and then transferring from the card to the computer.

Once either connection is made, the camera or card will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

The need to transfer files from one hard drive to another is common when restoring from backup, to make more room on a drive by archiving files or to copy or move files to a portable hard drive. Whether the destination drive is an installed second or third hard drive or is a portable hard drive, the procedure to transfer files from one hard drive to another remains the same.

Plug the destination hard drive into the computer if the drive is portable, and confirm that the computer has recognized the hard drive with a pop-up acknowledgment message. Click the "Start" button then click "Computer" or "My Computer," and then double-click on the icon of the hard drive that contains the files to be copied. When a window appears displaying the contents of the hard drive, navigate to the location of the files to be transferred. Click on each file to be transferred while holding down the "CTL" key to select all files to be copied. Right-click on one of the files that has been selected and click "Copy" in the menu that appears if you wish to leave a copy of the files on the hard drive, or click "Cut" in the menu that appears if you wish to move the files instead. Double-click on the icon of the destination hard drive in the "Computer" or "My Computer" window to display the contents of the hard drive in a new window. Navigate to the location on the hard drive where the files are to be saved. Double-click on the destination directory to open the directory and then right-click on blank space inside the directory window and click "Paste" on the menu that appears. A window will appear and display the status of the file transfer and disappear when the file transfer is completed. Hope this helps.

Just take the hard drive out of your old computer and hook it up to another computer via a usb port with a device like this:

Then when you have it hooked up to your new computer via the usb port just transfer the files you need from the old computers hard drive to the new computers hard drive in windows explorer..

You should be able to open up the SD Card in " my computer"

Once you locate the card, double click on it to open the files, then high light the music files , right click your mouse and send them to the final destination folder of your choich!

Stick the memory stick into the USB port, next wait for the instructions, open my computer next select the memory stick open it, finally select the file you need to copy to the memory stick, and dump them in it

How "full" is the hard-drive? Perhaps, you could have only a few gigabytes to be "saved".

Click Start
Click My Documents
Click Edit
Click Select All
Right-mouse click on any of the highlighted items.
Click Properties.
Windows will report on the size (megabytes/gigabytes) of all the selected documents and folders.

Perhaps, you can buy 4GB or 8GB or 16GB USB memory-stick,
and manually copy your 'My Documents' files/folders to that memory-stick.

Or, use the "Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to "collect" all your files & E-mail, and write an "export" file to that memory-stick.

Then, on the "new" computer, run the same Wizard, and "import" from the USB memory-stick onto your new computer.

Place the flash drive (mem stick) into the USB port of the computer. Copy the files to it. Remove it from the computer and put it into the USB port of the other computer. Copy the files from the flash drive to the computer hard drive.
The memorystick (flash drive) will show up as another disk in File Manager/Windows Explorer, and disappear when the device is removed.

You cannot transfer already installed games from computer to computer, only the files. The game must be installed from the original CDs in order to function.

You can transfer documents, music, pictures, etc.
