Don't use brand new batteries. Using older batteries makes the sensors less "sensitive". You will have to recalibrate every time you change batteries but at least you can use your product this way.
Put the sensor on the floor the board on a short stool or something and move the furniture back a foot
I had the same problem. I turned the WII so the dongle/sensor that comes with the game is facing the skateboard with a clear line of sight between the dongle/sensor and skateboard. Now it's able to calibrate. Hope this works for you.
I did turn all the lights in the room annd just have the tv on and this work. Yeah...:)

i had this same issue try turning off the lights leaving only the light from the tv....worked like a cham for me!

I had the same problem. I solved it and got the board to calibrate immediately when I replaced the brand new batteries with used batteries. Brand new batteries apparently make the lasers very sensitive. You have less sensitive sensors with the used batteries. I just took some AA's out of my cable remotes. The game is awesome once you get it calibrated. I felt your pain for an hour or so.
