Our handyman installed our Hunter Douglas Westside fan yesterday, and there is still a strong electrical burn smell everytime it's on. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

If you are controlling the fan speed with a wall type dimmer switch, the mechanical pull chain switch must be in the high speed position ONLY. If the pull chain switch is in the med or low position and you are using a dimmer type wall switch to control the speed you are burning the motor up. If this does not apply to your situation then it is possible that the fan is defective or maybe some packing material inadvertantly got inside the fan

Unit will not power on. Green light on the power cord indicates it is getting power. also tried different receptacles.

If you noticed an electrical smell (like something was overheating), you may have a compressor lockup, or a fan lock. If you know a good, and knowledgeable handyman, he should be able to troubleshoot the unit quickly. But if it is the compressor, repairs could cost as much as a new unit.

I have a ceiling fan (Hunter Douglas #9700 60" Grand Lodge that was purchased in Nov 07. Almost immediately, the highest fan speed did not work so we have been using it on the medium speed. It is now...

The noise you hear may be due to a loose screw(s) in one or more of the fan blade irons. The Irons are what holds the wooden blades and connects to the motor housing. It's usually the screws that attach iron to the motor housing, that work their way loose over time.If you have a light kit on the fan, check all the tension screws that hold the glass globes, shades, whatever you have to the light fixture(s).

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

We had a new Hunter fan installed today and it works fine but it makes a whining noise. The electrician says it may need a "dehummer" reostat. Was he joking? R.B.Doner

LOL - He was half joking. Not all wall rheostats are designed to work with electric motors and in fact, it could burn up the rheostat. Most home centers have what you need in their electrical dept. To find the right one, look at the specifications in the Owner's Manual, for the amount of amps the fan motor draws at high speed. This will help determine, which rheostat fits your application.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I purchased two 44 inch ceiling fans (model #28687) and had them installed in late October or early November, 2010. Both fans work great. Every time I turn on the lights on one there is a burning rubber...

Have the wiring checked by an electrician. Your wiring may be aluminum and occasionally the wire nuts (which are special for this type wiring) will fail. They are purple in color. Also check the wattage of the bulbs, If you have exceeded the wattage rating of the fan it will heat the rubber bands around the glass ware excessively.

Strong burning smell coming from vents and from inside rheem electric central heat. Smells like rubber burning.

You must have to open it, try to clean it..and check for some eletric cables with short circuit or bad cables burning and overheating...check the motor fan and if it has a bad AC capacitor
check the photo, and you will have an idea.v4ndre_0.jpg Good luck!

Smell of burning rubber

alright so you have a heat pump with back up electric resistance heat. We need to determine if your odor occurs when the heat pump is operating, when the electric resistance heat is operating or both to isolate the possibilities since the issue is intermittent. Thermostat should have an emergency heat position, this will shut off the heat pump and operate the electric resistance heat only. If the smell/odor occurs then we have reduced the possible causes. let me know, happy hunting.
