I have a Sony 60" that needs a picture tube, so I've been told. How much would it cost to have it repaired?

I wish i had the 60 i only have the 40 but they are the same lamp. I was going to just buy the bulb and do it myself but I just didnt feel comfortable. I have never done it before and i didnt want to break anything else. I ordered a brand new unit from Projector Lamp Services (relampit.com). They gave me a new unit for only a little more then just the bare bulb. Makes my life easier, i just pulled the old one out and put the new one in.

You can order the housing and lamp - naturally comes this way from sony - or order just the light(lamp) itself and save $100 - as long as you feel comfortable replacing it! chk these sites:

replacement lamp:

how to replace(you have to remove the bottom right grey plastic panel - just gently pull/pop it out corner by corner):

My phillips 60pp9202 has a darker pictue have been told that the bulbs need changing how many will i need

It uses 3 picture tubes and if even one is bad forget it, cost is around 400 each but this model has inside three lens for those tubes, clean the lens and see if improvement--lens cloth works fine for this.

You can access them from rear of set with back cover removed.

Hitachi 60" Ultravision TV - bad green tube that is leaking

If this has only started to leak recently, get an estimate from a local servicer for a coolant replacement for that tube. The coolant is corrosive and needs to be cleanedup ASAP from any circuit board that it has touched before there is damage. This is NOT a DIY repair. Expect a repair cost in the $300 range for parts and labor. If the set had a good picture prior to this, it may be worth the repair. This is your call. Do not delay however, as any delay will increase the likelyhood that there will be more damage that needs repair.

I think my color tubing is out it is sooo dark you can barely see

Not necessarily so, it may not even be the tube but a fuse that costs a few dollars. Get a proper investigation and quote

Picture has lines going across

No picture tube is cheap to replace. Especially a Sony tube. And besides the cost of the tube there's the labor cost to install it and some tedious adjusting needs to be done to set up the replacement. When a picture tube fails it's time to replace the set.

Now having said all that, there are different kinds of lines that can show on the screen. Some are because the tube is bad, but others can come from less expensive parts on the circuit board in the set. Without seeing the lines for myself I can't tell you about yours. If you are wanting to keep the set, I would suggest having a qualified shop check it. The can tell you for sure if it's the tube or not, and give you an estimate for the cost of repair.

Sanyo television

Susie, you either have a shorted green drive transistor or more likely a shorted cathode inside your picture tube, transistor repair is a cheap fix, picture tube means set is not worth cost of repair, hope this helps

Screen turns red after 10 minutes

First, lets see exactly what is happening and what is causing it. If your picture starts out fine, and after 10 minutes or so you notice that the picture is getting redder, and the redness slowly gets worse and worse, until finally there is red everywhere with faint curved lines, then chances are your Red Screen control is set just a hair too high. This is a very simply thing to correct. If, on the other hand, the picture is fine for 10 minutes or so and then suddenly flashes very bright red, followed by the set shutting down, then your red picture tube has developed a short in it, usually between the heater and cathode. A good tech might be able to remove the short by arcing. What is your set doing? The KP-51WS500 is one of the newer 16x9 1080i HD sets and the tubes are available from any Sony distributor. When they told you the tubes are not available, that was their way of saying they do not want to bother helping you. The Sony tubes are quite inexpensive, costing about $175, and they come complete with sealed coolant chambers, so replacing a tube is quick and simple.

Maintanence question obout my Sony rear projection.

i,m not a tech but i,ve been told by a techinican that those tubes do have fluid and it,s not an easy fix to change the fluid i was told the tube has to be removed and a tech told me it would run around 200.00 by the time the tech removes it puts the fluid back in and reinstalls it and after it,s reinstalled the convergance has to be reset that,s what realigns the colors back to their correct position and i,ve heard this isn,t an easy job so i,d probably get a techinican to fix it but that,s up to you someone might have an easier opinion but the tech i talked to is one of the best thanks and maybe you can help me i have a blue tube on my big screen tv that wont light upcould you give me some insite as to what you know about a projection light that you said that may need changed think that may be my problem your welcomed to call me about this at 270-566-4327 anytime soon as possible thanks

Sony 51" KP51HW40

There is a good possibility the green picture is arking and making the set turn off,SOMETIMES if you pick up the set from the ground about 3 inches and then drop it takes care of the problem, then the same symptom becomes intermitant or goes away for a long time, replacing the picture tube is a lot of work and then it needs to be adjusted completly that is why the high labor,If you decide to try it dont over do it,if that does not take care of it the only solution might be to replace the picture tube. Please let Us know if you need more information.
