Question about Digital Cameras

3 Answers

My Canon Powershot A95 quite taking pictures suddenly on our trip to Turkey. When I attempt to take a picture the storage card records a black screen. The flash goes off and I can hear the click sound of the simulated shutter. I can still see all the previous picture that I took in the viewing mode. Is this repairable or do I need to purshase a new camera?

It is suggested by Maanita that I do a "hard reset". I have done a regular reset as outlined in the camera instruction manual, but do not know what a hard reset is. Please explain this procedure for a Powershot A95 canon camera.

It was suggested that I do a "hard reset" to fix the problem on my Canon Powershot A95. I have done a regular reset which does nothing. What do I need to do to do a "hard reset"? The problem is that my camera only works in the mode that shows past pictures taken. It will not register any new images to the screen in "picture taking" mode. When trying to take a picture the simulated shutter sounds and the flash goes off all the time, which indicates to me that no light is registering in the camera.

There is no hard reset, technically removing the batteries does a hard reset. It does seem as though your imaging sensor (CCD) or the image processing circuitry has failed. If your camera is no longer under warranty then it would be in your advantage to purchase a new camera that does have a warranty. You will be getting a newer model with better optics, better battery life, better features, and faster response. You may consider the extended warranty from your retailer to avoid having to buy a new camera so soon if your new once breaks so soon.

If you purchased this camera with a credit card there is a chance that your credit card company will provide an extended warranty automatically on purchases made with the card, you may want to contact your credit card company to inquire about this. It may get you a new camera for free.

First try this: Remove the batteries and SD card for about 5 minutes and then reinsert and see if it works. Make sure the settings are correct when taking new pictures.

Should you still encounter the same issue, it could be a filing/failed CCD snsor, and you will need to get it serviced or buy a new camera, whichever works out cheaper for you..

To locate a repair shop (if not under warranty), try the Repair Service link on the right of this dialogue box. Enter your Zip, and it will throw up a list of nearby service centers, Shop around, and dont forget to mention that you were referred by Fixya (hopefully, that will get you a bit of a discount on services). Should you find the quote too high, then best option would be to buy a new one.

Hope that helps!
