New Kenmore 13743. Many of the glasses come out with a white film on them. Called the local Kenmore (Marshall at 1-800-469-4663) repairman on the advice of my salesperson. He said that he has frequent complaints about this problem. He said it is a problem with all dishwashers because dishwasher detergent no longer can have phosphates.I don't understand because my old dishwasher did not have this problem. He suggested 1. Put a cup of white vinegar in both the top and the bottom of the dishwasher and run a cycle. Do this at least once a month. 2. Do not use too much detergent. 3. Use dishwasher pellets. 4. He checked and said that it wasn't caused by hard water in my area--I do not have a water softener. According to him, my water is middle of the road on hardness or softness. (not a problem with my old dishwasheer). 5. Be sure to use Jet Dry. I rinse my dishes thoroughly before putting them in the d.w. because I want to wash a full load, which is about once a week. If this white film on glasses is a problem with the Kenmore 13743 then I want to get rid of it while my 3-mo. return is still viable--which expires Jan 2, 2011. (Been out of town for a month) I have done all the suggestions 1-5. Because of the time element I did not test them on a full load--but still 2 of the glasses came out with the film. HELP. Have you tried cleaning a single glasses with vinegar. Take a glass, soak it in vinegar for a couple hours, wipe it dry and see if the film goes away. If it does you know vinegar will work to help. I use vinegar with every wash now cause the film builds up quickly. If the film doesn't go away then it is likely that the glasses are getting etched by a corrosive detergent.

My GE dishwasher is 2 months old. The dishes are coming out with a film on them and the stainless steel inside has a white residue on it. I am using the recommended cascade products.

Do you know if you have hard water. It sounds like a hard water film. 1) purchase several applications of dishwasher cleaner from your local grocery store. Use them all back to back. 2) The only detergent I have found effective with hard water is called Somat. You may try your local appliance parts retailer for this. 3) The best solution is a water softener for your house.
To confirm if this is hard water, soak an affected glass or dish in the sink with 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water for a couple minutes. Then simply dry, if the film is gone its hard water.

Our Kenmore 665 was leaving white flecks on dishes and glasses

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.
