Check the transfer roller for impressions on it and also check the fuser to see if the protective coating is worn off.

Why is there a clear horizontal line within the printed line?

The print-head is like a paint-brush, in that it prints a "band" as it goes across the page.

In your case, some of the ink-jets are CLOGGED, and thus are not shooting ink as the print-head moves HORIZONTALLY across the page.

Run a few "print-head-cleaning-cycles", to try to unclog those ink-jets.

Since installing new ink cartrige every time I turn on the printer it prints an alignment page

Hi:
This problem is usually caused by one of the colors in the installed cartrige not printing out on the alignment page. You need to have red, blue and yellow working to get a good alignment. Try removing the cartridge, and wiping the print head with a wet paper towel to try to start the ink flowing. You should see three bands of color ink oozing out the bottom. If not, the cartridge is bad and needs replaced again!

My system is setup for dye sublimation printing. it has been perfect for 2 years, but yesterday, I noticed banding in the dark, heavy ink areas. I first checked the nozzles (clean) but I noticed the...

Hi, I recommend getting a set of Epson ink, run through a few head cleans and repeat the head alignment a few times if required.
Sublimation ink is a lot thicker than normal ink, this means a typical dye based printer may struggle over time. Genuine ink contains anti coagulants which prevent the ink from drying and a cleaning solution within the ink. If this doesn't work you can try removing and soaking the print head in distilled water but I would only recommend this as a last resort and only if your confident in doing this.

Banding

If your print head alignment is good, try printing at the slowest setting for the mean time until the banding is gone.

Band of ink on back of printed page

The exit rollers need to be cleaned, but whats happening is ink is coming from the bottom onto the rollers. It needs to come apart and be cleaned and a mylar strip put in to keep the ink from coming up. A shop repair usually.

Nozzle Clogging & Black Cartridge Leaking

Hi e-margaret. There's a bit of confusion here. Horizontal banding is due to LACK of ink flow to the paper. "Splodging" is due to too much. The former can be due to blocked/faulty print head nozzles or a faulty/empty-ish cartridge, or some less common problem like the waste ink pipe blocked. The latter is usually due to a leaking cartridge.

The first job is to mop up ink slopping around under the print head. Cut some strips of kitchen towel and fold them into 3 layers so you have a strip about 2 cm wide. Place them on the print head track. Turn on the printer, and as soon as the print head moves, pull out the power cord from the back of the printer. Now you should be able to move the print head carefully by hand too and fro over the towels. Repeat this with clean towel strips until most of the surplus ink is cleaned up. Remove the towel strips, replug in the power chord and switch the printer back on. Do a head clean cycle and nozzle check 3 or 4 times. If the nozzle check output looks OK, try a test print of a text document

If things are still not OK, report back on what happens in a new comment. If my instructions are not clear enough, please post a new comment asking for clarification.

Help!

Has it been a while since you've used the printer? If so, it's probably dried out a little. Try a couple things.
  1. Check if you are out of ink. The HP printer software will have an ink level picture indicating how much ink you have in the tanks.
  2. Print a test page. You can do this by click on the start menu, then selecting printers and faxes. Once you see your printer, right click it and choose properties. Then choose to print a test page. If that fails to print, go to step 2
  3. Clean the print heads. In the previous menu, you should find an advanced button. You'll have to search around a little as I don't have this printer, but there will be an option to clean the print heads. You may have to repeat the cleaning multiple times before you start to see an image.
If that doesn't work, comment back and we'll try some other things.

There may be a release lever for the print head assembly which would allow you to remove the print head and clean the excess ink from it. If it appears to get better the more pages you print it may be just a matter of time and lots of pages before it cleans itself.
Try running the print head cleaning utility multiple times to help reduce the amount of ink on the print head. This could take quite a few times before it gets better.

Dell A960 AOI Printer problem

Have you reset the ink levels for your printer? Some printer software refers to it as that others ask if you have installed a new cartridge.

Do maintenance on the printer, such as clean heads, print test page, head alingment, etc and see if that fixes it. You can get to all these options through properties
