I have cast iron grates on my GE gas stove. They are very hard to keep clean. Do you have an easy solution to remove burnt on grease?

Sounds crazy, but this works. Soak the grates in warm to hot water with 2 dryer sheets (Bounce), let them soak for an hour or two. Unbeliveable how they came clean. I did have to use a Scotch Brite pad on the two that I use most, but it sure beats replacing them.

The Grates are put in a Plastic bag, add ammonia, and seal it so no gas escapes. Keep overnit and take the grates out and clean with a scotch pad. They are easy to clean as they are softened.
Discard the ammonia safely.

Use regular oven cleaner. Not the overnight kind. If these are the light grey ones GOOD LUCK. I replaced my cooktop after onlly 6 months because I had a white cooktop with grey grates It was impossible to keep clean.

I agree with #3 but didn't need to use a scotch pad. Don't use oven cleaner! It isn't recommended by GE. Their book explicitly says to put the grates in a plastic garbage bag and pour a some ammonia into the bag. Tie the bag tightly so all the gas stays inside. Put in a garage in case it leaks because it can smell bad. Wait 24 hours and the stains will come off with a hose and some light rubbing. I didn't believe it at first but it works great! My wife loves our 'like new' oven.

I have a glass 4 gas burner stove top and cracked the glass, can I replace it? Its a GE Profile with a stainless steel front lip

Yes the glass is replaceable, you will have to order a new one, and you could do so through an appliance parts store. They can even put it in for you.

Can you put the top oven grates in the oven while it is self cleaning

Hi,

The top burner grates are designed to handle direct heat in excess of self clean temperatures.

You can put the grates in to the oven during self clean... but it will not clean them. The baked on residue needs some chemical reaction to break down the reside on them. I would suggest soaking them in an oven cleaner like easy off. Spray them down good then using rubber gloves put them into a plastic garbage bag, spray them again in the bag and close it up. Let them sit and soak for an hour or so then wash them off. This is best done outside so the odors will not be in the home in an enclosed area.

I have a GE Profile gas cooktop. The small black pads (feet) under the grates are deteriorating. Where may I purchase new pads?

Hello. Any store that carries the GE Profile appliances, like Home Depot, can order them for you. Regards, Joe

Stained gas range burner grates

Hey y'all. I have the same lame GE profile gas cooktop with the gray grates and burner covers. I know this is the expensive way to go, but I use Easy-Off "self-cleaning oven" oven cleaning spray. For about $5, you get 3 cleanings. It is a pain to do, but I have better things to do than scrub these grates all the time. I don't know why, but the baked on crud just drives me crazy. I tried everything to clean them completely. I even tried to scrub the darn things with a kitchen pumice stone(sold at walmart)but it is impossible to get the curvy areas clean. Now the paint has started to wear off on the burner covers.

I do not use the oven cleaner on the cooktop itself. I use soft-scrub with baking soda, then cover the cooktop with a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil and cut out holes for the burners. This keeps most of the spills contained, and helps with cleanup.

I visited to the GE parts web page, and they only sell gray grates and covers. I am going to buy black BBQ grill paint(spray can)from Home Depot and try it on the burner covers first. They are the least expensive to replace if it fails, and if it works, I will paint the grates with this high temperature paint. I will keep you posted on the results.

Regards,

Laura D.

Counter top stove burner won't light

Hi, You asked a very generic question but I will try to give you a good answer. If the pilot is good and you can light the burner with a match, (this checks everything else) then the most common problem would be the burner holes in front of the pilot are clogged. When cool, remove the burner and inspect the holes, any debris needs to be removed, a bent paper clip works really well. Compressed air helps as well. If there is a tube to the pilot make sure it is exactly where it belongs and that it is clean. If the match didn't light the burner or the flames is not all blue like the rest, there is something else wrong and you need to get back to us with a make and model to better help you. Make sure the burner gets seated back on the orifice correctly and best of Luck to you!

Just bought a house, no manuals

After a pot spillover, the cleanup process triggered my stove top to "control lock"

I removed the pot and once the stove top cooled I pressed and held the "control lock" button.

It began to blink, I released it and then the light went off and the stove top operated normally.

You might not have to wait for the stove top to cool. I don't know.

Ge profile electric counter top stove

I did not receive instructions with my G E Profile cook top Model No. 80030750434). There is a build up on the elements which I am having problems removing. Should the top be scraped while the stove is hot or cold? What is the best cleaning product to use?
