Childproofing my computer

I want to secure my computer so my children (ages 11 to 16) who are home for the summer, won't be able to access unsafe and/or innappropriate websites. And also so they won't download things that are spyware or other unsafe things.

How To Protect Your Children Online

Protecting your children online is usually much harder than protecting yourself. Children are subject to the same threats that you might be subject to while you are online. Sometimes they are even subject to threats which are worse. Children have to be protected from the online threats, & sometimes even from themselves. Protecting your children online requires discipline, education, & a little use of technology.

Among the threats to which children are subject while they are online are:
  • Harassment.
  • Exploitation (child pornography, abduction, trafficking) & stalking.
  • Exposure to sexually explicit material.
  • Identity theft & fraud.
Threats to children come in the same ways they do to adults. However, children may be more susceptible due to a number of reasons. Among these reasons are:
  • Children are generally more trusting.
  • They may not obey authority figures such as mum & dad.
  • They want to be socially active & accepted by their friends & peers.
Protecting children online involves several facets, such as:
  • Educating them on threats & how these threats are perpetrated. Make your children aware of the threats & what could happen if they do certain actions on the Internet.
  • Encourage your children to talk to you & let you know when someone is trying to get too close to them or get information out of them online.
  • Discourage your children from giving out too much information about themselves (such as photos, home address, phone number, school, friends, etc.)
  • Restrict Internet access. Make sure you know when your children are on the Internet, what they are doing, & with whom.
  • Schedule Internet access to a time when you are able to be at home & talk with them about it, see what they are doing, & so forth.
  • Don't permit unsupervised access. Deny Internet access to your children in their room. Allow Internet access only in public or common use areas (such as the family room, etc.)
  • Make sure you can see the monitor at all times while your children are online. Be wary of children who demand too much privacy online - what do they have to hide?
  • Install & use network monitoring tools such as Net Nanny.
  • If needed, restrict Internet access on the wireless router, DSL router, or even on the computer itself by setting a password that you only know so that your children will only be allowed to login when you can supervise them.
  • Install a firewall that blocks chat or instant messaging programs, or access to certain sites.
  • Install software that limits surfing to certain times of the day, or requires parental permission.

How Parents Guide Video Games For Kids

In this digital era, games are an inevitable part of our all day entertainment and studying. It's important to know how parents guide video games for their children so that the video games don’t become an obsession. The glaring negative effects of gaming have sent an ominous signal to all parents. This includes mental distraction causing

the children to prioritize gaming over lessons, lesser outdoor time(which leads to lesser exercises causing greater obesity), age inappropriate behavior due to the constant exposure to aggression seen in video games, addictive behavior etc.

There are perfect tools and resources that parents can rely to be informed about the video games. The Entertainment Software Rating Board(ESRB) rating system guides parents on how age appropriate the content of video is. The classification has the following categories: Early Childhood (EC) for 3 and older, Everyone (E) for content suitable for 6 years and older,

Everyone 10+ with content for 10 and older, Teen (T) for 13 and older,Mature (M) for ages 17 and older, Rating Pending (RP) for-non-classified games and Adults Only (AO) for 18 years and older.

At Microsoft the makers of the gaming console, there is good advice imparted to parents to avoid the harmful repercussion. Following simple principles would make new-age parents guide video games for their children in an effective way.

Comfortable posture while playing, takings break regularly during gaming, maintaining a balanced
lifestyle by restricting the hours of play, choosing age appropriate games for children and setting parental controls will go a long way in making our children enjoy gaming and not get hooked to it.

Playing games can be hazardous to some causing discomfort on hands, arms, shoulders. Some of them experience pain, numbness, throbbing and stiffness too. In these cases a health professional’s advice has to besought as early as possible.

Xbox 360 Family settings give parents to control access to children. Securing the content with a password or PIN helps. Parent scan restrict video content based on the ESRB rating. While using Xbox live where they interact with online community parents can seal the child communication via the video, conceal the child’s profile and restrict the child’s exposure to online content.

Raising children has become challenging today with many instances of cyber bullying and parents have to take corrective measures and know how parents guide video games. Stay informed and involved, secure content, communicate to children and enjoy. Parenting, like gaming is indeed a fun!

if you really the man that like to read many posts about video games, and new video games, and more, you can come to our website video games offers to read more articles, i want to give you good articles for you, because its important to me to share with you good information and new things.

Are children safe on night cruising?

As far as I know, most of the cruises allow children and they take necessary precautions too. honestly, I haven't heard about any security issues till date. I think, the security settings will be different in different cruises. I had cruised before with my family including my children aged, 8 and 12. The railings on the deck were high enough to prevent children from climbing it. My suggestion is that you need to educate kids about safety matters and ask them to talk to uniformed crew members for any help they need. See this faq page.

Webroot is an Internet security company based out of Colorado.
The company, founded in 1997, offers Internet security programs for businesses and home users.
The Webroot Internet Security Essentials and Webroot Internet Security Complete programs include a firewall that's designed to monitor incoming data and filter out potentially unsafe data.
Consequently, Webroot does not recommend that you disable the firewall.
Nevertheless, if you want to use a different firewall or if the firewall is blocking legitimate data, disable it with a few clicks.

Launch the Webroot program.
Click "Edit Settings" under "PC Security" in the "Home" panel.
The PC Security panel opens.
Click the "Firewall" tab.
Check the circle next to "Allow All Traffic." The Webroot Firewall is now disabled.

How do I turn on my MSI laptop, model #MS-16GN? It's my 13 year old daughter's and I need to monitor.

If you mean set up parental controls, you need to have an account on the laptop under your name with your own password (the next bit s taken directly from Microsoft)

Open Parental Controls by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, and then, under User Accounts, clicking Set up Parental Controls.? 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the standard user account for which you want to set Parental Controls. (this will be your daughters account)

Under Parental Controls, click On.

Once you've turned on Parental Controls for your child's standard user account, you can adjust the individual settings that you want to control. You can control the following areas:
  1. Web restrictions. You can restrict the websites that children can visit, make sure children only visit age-appropriate websites, indicate whether you want to allow file downloads, and set up which content you want the content filters to block and allow. You can also block or allow specific websites. For more information, see Limit the content that children can view on the web.

Time limits. You can set time limits to control when children are allowed to log on to the computer. Time limits prevent children from logging on during the specified hours and, if they are already logged on, they will be automatically logged off. You can set different logon hours for every day of the week. For more information, see Control when children can use the computer.

  2. Games. You can control access to games, choose an age rating level, choose the types of content you want to block, and decide whether you want to allow or block unrated or specific games. For more information, see Specify which games children can play.

  3. Allow or block specific programs. You can prevent children from running programs that you don't want them to run. For more information, see Prevent children from using specific programs.

With XP, all you can do is set up content adviser, which is a bit limited
To do this: Control panel / Internet options / Content / Content Advisor / Then in the box that appears, set the level of safety

I have a facebook acount but it will not let me sign in it says i am to young how would i change that

Hi dthernandez

Please everyone that comes across my info take a few seconds of your time to rate my solution which you can select at the bottom of my answer Was this solution helpful? YES or NO :)... As i have taken time to answer your question the best i can Thank You......

Gender and Birth Date. In addition to name and email address, facebook require you to provide your gender and birth date during the registration process. They ask for your date of birth to verify that you are 13 or older, and so that they can better limit your access to content and advertisements that are not age appropriate.Because your date of birth and gender are required, you cannot delete them. You can, however, edit your profile to hide all (or part) of such fields from other users.

How old are you?You can put your year of birth as 1984 etc to say your over the appropriate age but if you are reported to facebook as under age you may have your account closed down its to protect the under age children as the web is full of unsafe danger..

I was watch a video an i made a mistake by hiting block what do i do

google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad); Tweet Share Email YouTube is one of the best websites, when it comes to online video but the sad thing regarding YouTube is that some of the videos may not be safe for kids and small children.
Adult video clippings are uploaded daily and the YouTube website is filled with NSFW videos, MMS clips that are not safe for kids. YouTube however provides an option such as
"This video is not suitable for minors under 18 years of age. Please sign up or sign in to confirm your age."
But this restriction is easily bypassed because kids are probably more tech savy than you or other members of the family. If you are too concerned that your children might view objectionable videos at YouTube, YouTube has a safety mode which might help.
Turn On YouTube Safety Mode -- Block Adult or NSFW Videos in YouTube Search Results To turn on YouTube safety mode, scroll down on any YouTube page until you see the "Safety mode" option as shown below:

Select the "ON" option and hit "Save". This security filter will automatically hide inappropriate and objectionable videos from YouTube search results.
Note: This "Safety mode" filter is temporary and will revert to the "off" state whenever you close the browser window or sign out of your Google account. It would thus be wise to choose "Save and lock safety mode on this browser". This isn't permanent though but at least it will make sure that the safety mode is to the "ON" state whenever you are signed into that particular Google account.
Safety mode works fine for videos that have been uploaded quite some time back but they fail for recent videos that are uploaded to the YouTube website. This is because YouTube relies on the community spam reports, hence if other user's haven't flagged a specific video -- it might still appear in search results.
To see YouTube's safety mode in action, watch the video demonstration below:

How Do I Make Sure YouTube is Safe For Kids Two words -- It isn't.
The best option to block unsafe content and adult videos on YouTube is to block the entire YouTube site on your computer using browser extensions, Windows hosts file or OpenDNS method. Your kids may know these tricks already, so make sure the user account he is using is not an administrator account.
You can always use alternative video sharing websites that are safe for kids. Some of them are listed below:
Kidstube -- The site consists of a large collection of educational videos, pets, animal videos, music videos etc. No unsafe video is ever allowed to upload.
Kidmango -- Kidmango is a video sharing website for small children who are below 12 years of age. The site features children rhymes, cartoon shows and other funny videos that your child will definitely enjoy.
ZuiTube -- This one consists of thousands of YouTube videos for kids that are safe. If your 6 year old kid is addicted to cartoon shows and comic characters, ZuiTube will fill the gap when YouTube is blocked at home.
Kidz Bop: Kidz Bop is another child friendly video sharing website that contains games, music, online contests as well as featured webshows, apart from regular entertaining videos that are safe for kids.
National Geographic: Last but not the least is the National geographic video channel which contains a good collection of educational videos for kids, animal videos, places of world interest and more.
Got any other YouTube alternative for kids ? Let's hear them in the comments section.

Need a car seat manual

Types of car safety seats at a glance
The chart below is a quick guide on where to start your search. However, it’s important to read more about the features and how to use your car safety seat.
Age Type of Seat General Guideline Infants Infant seats and rear-facing convertible seats All infants should always ride rear-facing until they are at least 1 year of age and weigh at least 20 pounds. Toddlers/Preschoolers Convertible seats It is best to ride rear-facing as long as possible. Children 1 year of age and at least 20 pounds can ride forward-facing. School-aged children Booster seats Booster seats are for older children who have outgrown their forward-facing car safety seats. Children should stay in a booster seat until adult belts fit correctly (usually when a child reaches about 4' 9" in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age).
