You would have to pull down the laptop if you can. there seem to be something shorting out the 14.v battery connection allowing it to discharge the charge from the battery when off. if you can get the motherboard exchanged for a new one thats you first go, because the problem is def the motherboard.

Why does my compaq presario v2000 battery always drain even while plugged in?

If the battery fully charges and lasts in normal use without the charger plugged into the laptop, then this clearly indicates a problem with the charge circuits in the computer, unfortunately this is built into the motherboard.

I hav charging problem wit my hp laptop

I'll need to know more information if I'm to diagnose your problem, but I think your battery may have been exhausted. Rechargeable batteries, including laptop batteries, have a limited lifespan and, after many charge/discharge cycles, cease to be able to hold a charge.
If this is the case, you should replace your battery, and conduct normal battery conditioning- charge the battery up fully, then remove the power cable and allow the laptop to drain the battery. When the laptop goes into hibernation mode, leave it for a few hours until the battery is completely drained. Then, plug the laptop in again and allow it to charge up fully. This process should be repeated monthly in order to ensure a long battery life.

Battery problem with HP Compaq Presario V2000 laptop

When batteries fail, they usually lose the cells inside them, which means that the cell is no longer able to function as a holding cell for power and therefore cannot do its job anymore, when a battery fails to hold and refuses charging it is bad and needs to be recycled. The flashing is telling you to purchase a new battery. The larger the number of cells in the battery, the longer and better it will perfrom,,RE: 6 cell, 9 cell, 12 cell.

Take the Battery back Its defective , New batteries should charge for 18-24 hours, and the computer should tell u that it wont run till the battery is fully charged.

How long does it take to charge the battery to a full charge...thanks,judy....on a presario V2000

usually 8 hours is what is suggested when you get a new battery. i like to burn down the power on the battery completely till it turns the unit off, then let charge for 24 hours just to reset the battery correctly.

Problem

DC-DC board or motherboard. does it boot up from a charged battery (like from another laptop)?

if it works on battery power then i'd look to replace the DC-DC board (its a little board inside the laptop that holds the power jack and a few power-related components)

if it continues to beep even when only on a battery then you should look into a replacement motherboard. and if you have a Compaq V2000, i'd look into a "parts/repair" laptop from eBay or something because that will cost less then just a motherboard.

also the DC-DC board may be built into the motherboard. in that case there is none and the motherboard is the thing you want to replace.

Battery not charging...but is recognized by V2000

My guess since the battery checked fine in another laptop would indeed be the charging board or charging circuit on the motherboard.
