Frmtread error his happens only with mp3 cds. The radio and regular cd's work fine. So I thought the lens needed cleaning but still the same. After the third cleaning it played fine. Couple cd's later it started again and this time cleaned it four times but still static when I play my mp3 cds. Radio and regular cd's are fine. Also, an error "FRMTREAD" always comes on when I put any cd in. On a note...these mp3 cd's work fine in any other player.

Format Read Error. Usually a problem when disc was burned at wrong speed, or corrupted during burn. Some writing programs dont put an initial track on the CD designating it an audio disc. (sig. Data instead) Try other burning software. Nero has many Problems. FYI
Try burning @ slower speed next disc.

My music system will mot play CDs

Hi, Although CDs are still the preferred method of audio distribution, CD players are quickly being phased out in lieu of MP3 players. If your old CD player stops working, it might be a little panic-inducing, but fear not. If the CD player turns on but does not play CDs, then the problem is not with the power cord or the circuity (which are generally more expensive to repair rather than fix) but with the lens. There are several troubleshooting steps that you can take to fix a CD player when it won't play.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

* Glass/lens cleaner
* CD cleaning disk
* Dry duster

Remove excess dust from the CD player. Dust is the number one enemy of electronics, and it can corrode even the most resilient device. Make sure to dust in between buttons, knobs, power cord(s) and audio-out ports. Note: use a dry duster, as moisture will harm your CD player further.

Use a disk-based lens cleaner to remove ground in dust or dirt from the CD player's lens. These lens cleaners look like a regular CDs, but have specially-made bushes on the reverse side that gently remove excess dirt from the CD-reading lens. Simply put the CD in your player, and press the "Play" button to clean the lens. Do not run the cleaner more than once, as excess brushing can cause scratches on the lens.

Polish the lens. Use a glass or eyeglass cleaning solution and a lint-free cloth to gently polish the reading lens. Clean it by using a low amount of pressure and softly polishing the lens and its surrounding area using soft, circular motions. Do this for about a minute or two and then allow the player to sit for a few minutes before trying to play a CD.

Tips & Warnings

If the CD player does not turn on or off, or the power indicator flashes infrequently, the problem is with the power cord or the circuit board, in which case the CD player will not be able to be repaired.

If the CD player still does not work after these steps, the lens has probably been scratched, and the CD player will need to be replaced.

I bought a Radio Shack cd cleaner (cd w/little brush on it) to clean the lens of the cd player however the machine won't recognize the disc when inserted so I cannot figure out how to "play" it. Many of...

yes here is a simple easy way to get them to stop skipping, stick them in the freezer portion of your fridge, only if the cds have scratches on them, even the smallest scratch can cause a perfectly working cd player to make the cd skip, stick the cd in the freezer for about 15 or 20 mins and pull it out and play it, i have used this method for a lot of my video games as well and have never had to buy any "cd player cleaner cds" i hope this helps

Jvc kd-sx770 car stereo--radio works, but cd player doesn't

Hello beeswing70,

The player is recognizing that a CD has been inserted but is not able to read it.

Sometimes the lens assembly becomes contaminated and obscures the laser. I'd try using a commercial "lens cleaning CD" two or three times and then try a CD again. These lens cleaning CD's are widely available. If cleaning does not help, the player need professional service.

Hope this helps.

Denon DCM 390 not longer reads discs--HELP!

Hi there, this lens may be dirty or it may have a thin layer of heat film that is causing it to not read in a consistent manner. i would try to clean the lens with a good CD lens cleaner. if the cleansing doesn't restore the lens to its original reading state, this will confirm lens assembly failure and you will need to replace this assembly.

CD doesn't work. LED readout says FRMTREAD, error 12. ;what's happening?

If this error appears on any music CD (burned or store-bought), it's likely the laser/lens assembly is having trouble focusing well enough to read the disc. You can try resetting the unit (use a paperclip or ballpoint pen to press the button in the small hole next to the eject button), but there's only a small chance this will help. You could also take it to an electronic repair shop to see how much a cleaning would cost (usually more than the player).

If it only happens on burned discs, try changing brands of CD-Rs or even burning the disc at a slower speed. If the songs are burned from iTunes, try burning other formats (i.e. MP3) via a different method.
