My playstation 3 freezes when i try and play online call of duty

Upgrade to the newest firmware, since 3.0 had some freezing issues with some games, if your internet connection is slow it would also cause it to freeze up

Everytime i try to play a game online, it doesnt work

What game are you trying to play? Even though the time goes up its been my experience that the download is still going on, even if the status bar seems like its stuck. A couple of games I play, like Socom confrontation signs you out of the PSN but your connection is still up to download the patch. It will sign you back in as soon as it installs it. I know the MAG beta has been notorious for this also. Are you having this happen on every game you try? Disc based versions? Are the games your trying to play multiplayer? Try unhooking your ps3 from its internet connection.. do you still get that error?
Im really curious to know if you were able to get it going or not, Ill be checking fixya here all day so if you have any more questions please post back. ill reply

Playstation 3

Hey fyocksofresh,

If performing a system update with your PS3 fails, you may wish to try updating using a USB flash drive and your home computer instead. In order to do so, you'll need to create the following folders on the flash drive itself:

PS3 > Update

Once this is done, you'll want to visit the website I've provided below to download the most recent software version. The link should be easily found under the "Download the System Software" heading on the page.

http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=275

Once you've downloaded the file and transferred it onto the USB flash drive, connect the flash drive to your PS3 and choose "Update via Storage Media" instead of the normal internet option.

In the event that updating the software this way doesn't work, there are a couple of things you may wish to try before attempting again.

1) Delete all the cache files and cookies from your PS3's internet browser.

2) Power cycle your PS3 (turn it off completely, then back on) before attempting again.

3) Restore the default PS3 system settings. This should clear any potential problems that may be caused by your current system software version.

If none of these help, I'd strongly suggest contacting Sony for more information. You should be able to do so by calling their toll-free hotline at 800-345-SONY (800-345-7669) or by filling out an online repair request form.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
