Winbook laptop wont power up, could it be a security thing

First you state Desktop then Laptop ?
Take the battery out, plug in the charger and see if the laptop works.
If it works, the battery may be the problem.

Check the AC Adapter
Check to make sure the adapter is plugged securely into the wall outlet, connected firmly to the adapter box and to the back of your laptop.

Most AC adapters have a little light in themon that rectangular box in the middle of the cord that lights up when it's getting electricity.

If that light isn't on, try a different outlet.

Check your fuse or circuit breaker box and plug a different device into that outlet to make sure there is power to it.

If it still does not light up, your adapter could need replacing.

Also check the adapter box for signs of warmth, as it will generate heat when it's plugged in. No heat means no power.

Remove the Battery Sometimes it's as simple as a seated battery.

Remove the battery entirely and clean out any dust, lint or hair that may be clogging the connectors and preventing a proper connection.

Reseat the battery securely and make sure the little locking pins that hold your battery in place are securely fastened and there is no movement.

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source.

Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards

Check all power and data leads from motherboard to hard drive and all of your cd/dvd drives make sure connections are secure dust free and not faulty

computers need all power and data to travel through every working device and to finish its cycle
so any faulty lead will end in computer error or shutdown / fail to boot or to reboot on a cycle

make sure your computers RAM modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge and seated with no dust in the sockets.

some Motherboards Cmos batteries are soldered in.

Won't turn on

Check the power lead and the mains outlet.
If these are OK and when you press the power switch on the computer and the power LED does not light up then most likely the switch mode power supply is faulty.
Switch mode power supplies contains dangerous mains voltage and I do not recommend a DIY repair. Just purchase a new switch mode power supply, make sure the wattage of the power supply is equal or greater than the old power supply.

No power at all, np lights come on and well nothing!

No power and power LED does not light up, this indicates either the mains power is off or you have a faulty power lead. Test the mains socket and the mains power lead.
If these are OK then the fault most likely a faulty switch mode power supply. Remove the switch mode power supply and get it tested at your friendly computer repair shop OR borrow a power supply and insert it into your PC to see if it now boots up.
If it boots up the replace the power supply with a new switch mode power supply with the same total wattage or higher wattage.

Not switching on

Hi, Disconnect your ac adaptor from the laptop and remove the battery for about 30mins. Then keep power button pressed for about 10 seconds. Now fit install the battery and the power lead, wait for the mains led to liight which should also show the battery led as being charged, after 20 seconds, power up the laptop.
It should now power up, if not check if any flashing leds are present and if the lcd screen tries to light up.

Error 161 & 163 on ibm aptiva 2168-m62

try this one:

Errors 161, 192, 163.
All three of these errors are connected to the back up
battery.
To resolve this problem:
1. open memory flap on base of laptop (small philips
screwdriver required)
2. find the small connector with 1 black & 1 red wire
coming from it.
3. disconnect above connector and gently pull the
Red&black wires. The backup battery should just pull out
from under the casing.
4. get replacement battery. Either
a. call IBM spares (07900 247 490 in UK) and ask for FRU:
02K6502. UK price is about £8 + £15 delivery + VAT.
b. if comfortable with soldering iron: Carefully open the
packaging on the backup battery using a sharp knife.
Remove the solder tags from the battery (these are spot
welded so need to be cut/broken off). Buy a new CR2025
battery from any computer shop, jeweler, or camera shop.
Using electrical tape, insulate all round edge of battery
(see the one just removed). Solder the leads onto the new
battery - note polarity. Red wire to +, black wire to -.
Using more insulating tape, wrap battery so that all
exposed metal is covered.
5. put new battery into laptop (reverse steps 1-3)
6. start up computer, error 192 has gone, but still shows
161, 163. Select OK.
7. reset date & time, and OK
8. when screen shows 'O / I' restart laptop using on/off
switch at side.

Battery is showing its there and at 82% and charging but not charging and laptop crashes when mains fails ?

The laptop's battery might be weak to hold the laptop. The indicator will indicate the battery is ok, but when mains is removed there, it goes off. Try swtch on with only battery and see if it goes on and then off, it is the battery that is bad.

Laptop compaq presario f500,running vista.Wireless is not working,Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Matt Sydney Aug 4, 2008 00:28:44 GMT 10 pts
I experienced this problem last night, and seemed to have fixed it this morning.

SYMPTOMS: HP Pavilion dv9000, Win Vista x64 Ultimate. Running on battery, battery level became critical; windows went into 'Hibernate' mode. Upon plugging in to mains power, and resuming the Windows session, the Wireless is still disabled, no matter what position the switch is in.

POSSIBLE CAUSE: Critical battery switches off the wireless network card to preserve power. Motherboard seems to log this status but when re-connecting to mains power the card does not receive power again. Uninstalling the driver and getting Windows to re-install automatically upon re-boot does not work.

SOLUTION: Charge up the battery whilst the computer is running. You can charge it to a substantial level, say, above 25%. Disconnect mains power so that your laptop is running on battery only. Set your wireless switch to OFF (this is usually to the left position, away from the orange indicator). Now run your computer down to the critical battery level again (perhaps overnight). In the morning when you press the power button, the 'CHARGE' indicator (looks like a lightning bolt) on the front of the laptop should flash quickly, indicating that there is no charge in the battery. Remove the battery from the laptop's underside. Wait a couple of seconds, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Keeping the battery off the laptop, reconnect mains power. Boot up your PC. When at the Windows desktop and all your startup programs have finished loading, switch your wireless on (to the right position). You should now have a blue light, and wireless should once again be working. You can now re-insert your battery. You might have to setup your wireless network connection again as mine seemed to be 'lost', but at least hopefully the main problem is now fixed.

Backlight fails after 2 mins on Sony Viao laptop. Is there a common fault? where can i source spares?

On dissasembly of the unit, having removed the mains lead from the unit and dropping out the battery, there are very few parts, just the backlight tubes which run around the periphery of the screen and a narrow Pcb at the base of the screen which is the invertor (takes a low input voltage and provides 600volts+ to drive the tube.) I obtained a replacement Invertor which resolved the fault ( cost of repair £50 and 15 minutes work.)

Take great care to ensure both the battery and the mains lead are removed pior to opening the unit as voltages around these components are in the order of 600volts when in a powered state..
