That sounds like a bad switch. I would try a new or used replacement.

First holddown the TV button for 6 seconds, press and release the power button, then pressand release the 'channel up' button once per second until the television turnsitself off. Lastly, press the pound button, this will lock in the code for yourTV and the remote should then work.
