Question about Xerox Phaser 8200 Laser Printer
Xerox 8200 paser
low capaccity tray
printer normally just sit there priting quite happily
All of a sudden we have an error message "reppalce paper tray" - but the paper tray is there.
Resetting the printer doesn't help
So most likely we have a dead sensor.
Can someone please help me identify where the relevant sensor is, and if there are any typical faults that would cause the problem that I am seeing.
I've had a similar problem with a client's 8200 printer, and looking at the right hand side of the tray someone had previously put some tape over the topmost 'slot' (above where the green slider goes across).
I put some new tape over the top slot and the 'replace paper tray' message went away.
Admittedly, the tape gets pushed in so I don't know how long it will be before the tape gets dislodged and the error re-appears.
The printer is well out of warranty and they don't want to pay anything to get it fixed... so this solution is fine with them.
Hope this helps someone else out there :-)

Tape over the top slot above the "transparency or paper" green slide with a piece of electrical tape. Ensure that the tape is secure (will not slide around to the touch). Poke small hole in center of tape. Insert a #8-32 x .415" slotted-head machine bolt (binding post) through the tape then install #8-32 nut on inside. This should reinforce the tape as it contacts the side sensors...

Tape over the top slot above the "transparency or paper" green slide near the front on the right side worked. In addition, when I pulled the tray fully out, I saw the small plastic tab that was supposed to go there sitting on the bottom of the slot the paper tray was supposed to go in. Perhaps finding and replacing that back in the correct area will be a more permanent fix.

On right hand side of tray at front, but these normaly only break during paper load. it is normaly not the sensor but rather the tab it rubs against. you may be able to use the manual feed tray

Normaly when you get this problem it means that you need to replace the feed rollers in that tray.
Rollers: Replace the rollers when you see any of the following defects:
Out of roundness
Loss of traction (tackiness) causing pick or feed failures.
Xerox paper pick roller
Part # 401-0882-00
Hope this helps

There is a Transparency sensor (called the OHP) which is part of the Registration Transport 116-1164-00
Clean it first. Or replace the whole assembly
