Question about RCA RP5420 Clock Radio

RCA RP5420 auto set is not working

Hi, I unplugged my clock. Now when I plug it in, it just blinks 12:00 and it is not setting time automatically. Rest all the things are working perfectly fine. I have replaced the batteries with new one but still it is not working.
I did set the time after unplugging the clock. But every time power failure happens it starts blinks 12:00. As per auto set function, once time is set it should automatically remember the time. But it is not happening.

Same problem. I unplugged it because I accidentally had hit the "nap" function and couldn't make it go away. When I plugged it back in, it would blink 12:00 and keep blinking. It changed time but was always exactly 3 hours and 8 minutes off. I thought maybe it needed several hours to find the right time, but it did this for over 24 hours. Always stayed exactly 3 hours 8 minutes off. Any ideas?

how do you set the time on the clock radio and turn off the alarm

Lots of "same as me', but what do we do about it?

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2009

I set the time manually, and it always goes back to blinking 12:00. I took the batteries out and put them back in, but the clock was plugged in anyway so that shouldn't matter. I got this clock as a gift and didn't anticipate a problem so we've already thrown out the box. Had trouble within a week of setting it up. I read and re-read the directions. Have re-set the time at least five times, but it always reverts to flashing, whether I have it on the "lock" setting or the "clock time" setting. As for automatically knowing the time....it hasn't done that since day one.

might need batteries, but yeah i get the same thing, accidently set the time manually one time, now it refuses to set the time on it's own and the nap-function no longer cancels like it used to.  love the features on this clock, but RCA can go lick a donkey

I've owned two of these. All I know is that the clock seems to be designed to auto set itself only once when it is plugged in for the first time. Every time thereafter the user has to set it manually if the batteries are not installed or are dead when the clock is unplugged.

Hi !!! my name is carlos and just i bought a rca clock radio rp5420 and i dont know how setup the clock if you know how can i do that tell me how please apreciate your help thanks!! sorry for my bad...

You do not have to set the clock time as a built-in automatic time set system is equipped in this clock powered by 3V (2X AA batteries). All you have to do is to plug this clock for power and current time will be shown automatically. However, the batteries can also be exhausted and it is recommended to replace the batteries every 2-3 years.

But if you want Setting the Clock:
1. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/ on the top of the unit to clock position.
2. Press REV or FWD to set the clock time. The time decrements or increments will follow by a faster rate when you press and hold the buttons. The ":" between hour and minute time flashes when you are setting the time. AM or PM icon will also beside the time.
3. Slide the switch /WAKE1/WAKE2/on the top of the unit to original position when finished.

Thanks.

My clock is constantly blinking and won't go on the right time. I unplugged it and plugged it again, it just keeps blinking.

Hello
Check the bckup batteries in the clock first. If they are weak, backup function will not work properly, and the display will blink after a mains power failure.

Try setting all three alarms to the current time and then slide the switch back to the locked position. You should see the correct time displayed. It works on mine.

At the top of the clock, there is four positions for the slider. The first is shown as a key, which I assume is the automatic time setting mode. The second is Wake 1, the third is Wake 2 and all the way to the right is a manual time setting mode. If you slide it all the way to the right, you can set the time, then either keep it in that mode or return it back to automatic mode. Either way, you now have the correct time displayed.

On the back of the clock - left hand side if you've laid it down on it's face - is a row of switches. You need to start the time set-up with the clock having been unplugged so there's no time set in the memory5.gif.
Now, to those switches: The first (from the left) is DST = Daylight Savings Time - right now you'de set this to "ON."
The second switch is Time Zone: PST, MST, CST, EST (Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern). Set the switch to the time zone you are in.
The third is just the brightness.

Now, to set the time itself:
1 - Turn the clock face back up to where you can see it.
2 - LOOK AT THE CLOCK - LOL! This is an atomically set clock - you shouldn't need to set the time. The atomic clock bounces off of satellites all around the world. There is literally little to no "dead zones" for the clock, so you should never have to set your clock - just set it up like I state at the beginning.

Good Luck!

RCA RP5420 clock radio will not auto set time. Please help

Bob, My auto-set worked fine. I'd suggest setting the time manually (by sliding the top-rear slider all the way to the right and using the '<<rev' and 'fwd>>' buttons) if you are still having problems.

Can't set the time

You can disable the daylight saving time function using the DST switch. Setting the time requires you to slide the 4-position slide switch on the top rear to the right to set the time.
