Sc-pt760 "chgr err"

Just got my Panasonic scpt760 out of the box. I turned it on and it made a strange noise for a while then told me "chgr error" It then would not let me do anything with the remote. The manual says turn it on and off and if problem does not fix itself contact the dealer. Any way to fix this?????

I have the same problem.  I just bought mine yesterday.  I tried the "fix" on page 35 (ie Press the power button etc) but still won't work.  I plugged everything in AFTER I had everything else hooked up as directed in the manual.  I will try to contact Panasonic today, but what a bummer.

Did you plug everything else in before or after you plugged the main unit in?

For panasonic sc-pt760, if the DVD player is busted, you can't access the option to switch to Digital in. With Digital in, you can still use the unit as a sound system by feeding it through the optical input from your TV. but, the trick, You can't access the switch menu without an ipod. For some reason, you can switch from an Ipod to your D-in. You can't switch out of AM/FM to d-in as it tries to access the broken DVD first.

SOURCE: I have a err code "chgr err" on my panasonic sc-pt960.

This would indicate a CD/DVD Changer Error.
The system thinks there is a stuck disc or other wierd problem with the CD/DVD changer.
Unfortunately these issues are rather hard to fix, due to the way the changers work.
Opening these units isn't that hard, however fixing an issue with the changer is very difficult and is best left for a specialist.
You may need to contact a local Panasonic repairer to get this one fixed.
Use the link below (if you are in the US) and enter your model number and ZIP code to locate your nearest repairer.

Best of luck, and sorry that I could not be of much more help than this.

I wish I had a solution for you. Mine just did the same thing (it's only a year old). I called into Panasonic, and they very briskly told me all they could do was give me the number of a local repair man. I called them, and was told it would cost about $250 to fix it.

LOL if you just paid good honest hard earned cash for it i would certainly take it back. You might get a few freebies in the process. If you never broke it, Dont try and fix it because you will be held responsible for any damage they deem fit to blame you for.

I have a Panasonic SA-PT960 surround sound/dvd player. Whenever I turn it on I get a chgr err flashing on the screen and a loud grinding noise

There is a fault with the DVD Changer and the noise is the gears grinding. This is a common fault with these units as a small arm within the unit breaks and blocks the mechanism.

You can either try and replace the complete DVD Changer or remove it and just us it as a surround sound system with your auxiliaries connected to it.

Hi! the chgr err code indicates one of you trays is stuck inside the dvd tray unit. this occurs typically when the reader is initializing the last disk viewed and you push the exchange disk button. This happened already twice on my system. I did solve the problem by opening the unit and removing all components until I could access the trays and manually release the mechanism. I only recommend doing so if the player is out of warranty and if you are not afraid on working with small electronic/ components parts. I could not find any other non-invasive solution to the problem.
