If you have a lot of music files, pictures, large files, etc on your hard drive this will slow down your computer. If you have a good antivirus program you need to run it, because your system could be infected with a worm or virus. You might also want to look at how much RAM you have in your system and upgrade to more if you have any open slots for the modules on your motherboard. If you have a cd/dvd burner, burn those large files onto it I mentioned then delete them from your hard drive > use scan disk to check for errors and automatically fix them > then once that is done defrag your hard drive > Use msconfig in the run box, then go to your start up tab, uncheck anything that you do not absolutely need because when you start your system there are tons of programs running in the background and this takes up system resources. By unchecking them they will not automatically start running when you power your system on. Hope this helps and let me know if you need further assistance.

A notepad appears as soon as I log in. This is the message "[.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787". How will I end this?

Please try the following. Click on your Start menu and look for "Startup" (maybe under "All Programs") and see if you see a file with a notepad icon in that list.

I installed my lexmark 2600 printer and there is no icon on my desktop screen, help

Maybe you have to reboot to get it on the desktop. Does the printer work if you opened a document and tried to print to it? If not, reinstall it.

Is it in your program list? Click Start/Programs or Start/All Programs and look for the Lexmark Folder. If it is there, then you can Right Click on any item inside the folder and select Send To/Desktop (Create Shortcut) to send it to the desktop.

Wireless is connected but internet wont detect connection

For wireless connections:

1. Hold the Windows key and press the R key, type services.msc and press Enter or click OK. This should open a new window - services local.
2. Look for Wireless Zero Configuration on the list in the right pane. The list is alphabetical, so you should be able to locate it maybe third from the bottom.
3. Double-click it to open it.
4. Click on the STOP button to stop it (lower left). If it is not highlighted or is grayed out, then the service is stopped. (it should also say that the SERVICE STATUS is stopped).
5. Look for STARTUP TYPE drop-down menu. Change it from AUTOMATIC to DISABLED. then click on APPLY (lower right).
6. Then just change it right back from disabled to automatic and click on apply again.
7. Click on START button (right beside the STOP button) on the same window to start the service.

--- We are essentially restarting the windows wireless service. What we did just turned it off and on again ---

8. Close the services local window.
9. Go to Start and then Control Panel. Network Connections. If you don't see Wireless Network Connections or Local Area Connection after opening Network Connections, kindly look for Network Connections again (it maybe on the lower right).

--- We need to be on the page where you have the wireless network connections icon. ---

11. Right-click on the icon for Wireless Network Connections then left-click on Properties.
12. You should have several tabs. Click on Wireless Network Connections tab (near the top of the window).
13. Make sure you have a checkmark on where it says, "Use windows to configure your wireless connections..." or something like that.

--- Before going into the next step. Kindly make sure first that you have the following CORRECT information: (1) your own SSID; (2) Network key (if you have one) - WEP or WPA or whichever encryption you are using. If you don't know these information, kindly secure these information first or better yet, try calling your router manufacturer to help you out on this ---

14. Then on the list that shows on the same window, remove everything on the list. That list shows all the wireless networks that you have been connected to before.

--- Don't worry about deleting it. The next time that you connect to the wireless network, it will be automatically added back into this list ---

15. Once everything is removed. Kindly close the window.
16. Go back to where you have the Wireless Network Connections icon again.
17. Right-click again the icon and left-click on View Wireless Network Connections.
18. If your wireless router is broadcasting your SSID, then you should be able to see it on the list of wireless network(s) that will appear on the screen.
19. Select your SSID and hit Connect.
20. It should be asking for your network key. Type it in. In might ask you to confirm the network key. Just type it in again.
21. It will attempt to connect it. And you will get a notification that you are connected.
22. Once you are connected, go back to the window where you have the Wireless Network Connections icon we were working on before.
23. That icon should say that it is connected.
24. Double-click it. It should open a new window.
25. You should have a General tab and a Support tab.
26. General tab should say it is connected.
27. Click on the Support tab.
28. Now confirm if your IP Address says 192.168.x.x. where x can represent any number. Example: 192.168.0.100
29. If you have these confirmed. Kindly try to see if you can now get into the internet or into your network.
30. Enjoy!

let me know if this don;t work for you Blankzero

have you tried to go to the manufacturer's website to download the manuals?
right click your mouse over the icon and see what the program is.
or you can go to start settings control panel add/remove programs and see the list of installed software. (most installed programs have icons, others, such as java, won't).
double click any icon and the particular program will start. click on the red X in the upper right corner to close any program.

I just purchased the cd-rom 'the worlds best Mahjong games and I'm trying to install it but I dont get an icon to click on or the word play so I dnt know how to get into the game Please help me my email...

hi,

if you successfully install Mahjong games in default it automatically install in your desktop the game icons. But now a days, program/game makers asking your permission to install the icons in the desktop and shortcut icons in the task bar and if you un check those permission you cannot see a shortcut icons in your desktop.

try to see it in the START Menu Programs. look for the game if there's a drop down menu look for the game icon and right click it. if no drop down menu just right click it. and go to send to and click desktop and now the game icon is already displayed in your desktop.

if you can't see it in START Menu Programs. Please re install it.

Have you ran your antivirus? Do you have a program installed that uses this icon? Is the icon located on your task bar of running programs? Sorry for all the questions but these are things we would need to know to have an idea of your problem.
These kind of "attention issues" are usually Viruses or a software update. Have you ever seen this icon info before? It's likely a virus and if your not sure what something is or something strange or new pops up, first rule; don't click on it. That's how viruses execute themselves into your system.
Try right clicking on the icon & see if you have properties. From there follow the path on the general tab/location/and delete. Under description on the general tab will also give you a name of the program. Do a search and see if it finds anything. If there are different names write them down doing a search and deleting each one. This is how viruses can work.
If you feel it's a legit program go to start/run/type msconfig/startup tab/ look for suspisios programs and uncheck them. If your not sure what they are look each up on internet.

I have a COMPAQ Presario V4000 notebook with Windows XP Pro factory installed. I am trying to find out how to clean up the boot/startup file so that only the necessary programs load on startup, over the...

First uninstall and program you don't use with Add/Remove Programs.
Look in Start - Programs - StartUp to see some of them. You can delete these safely if you want.

Use AutoRuns to see what other startup programs you have and where they are located.
www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Autoruns.html

You can also Start - Run - MSCONFIG and use Startup tab to enable or dissble some programs and then reboot to see if it still works OK. If not then you can just run MSCONFIG again and tick the box to put them back in again.

Please rate this answer if it helped.
