If it's a 2-stroke where you mix gas & oil or has a separate oil tank under the seat that you fill to mix with the gas ... you don't change the oil. 2-stroke engines don't generally have oil in the crankcase, they're oiled with the fuel they run on (which is mixed with oil). What model ATV do you have?
Page 8 of the Homelite user Manual gives you the EXACT ratio.
FUEL MIXTURE
'This product is powered by a 2-cycle engine and requires
pre-mixing gasoline and 2-cycle lubricant. Pre-mix unleaded
gasoline and 2-cycle engine lubricant in a clean 1 gallon
container approved for gasoline.
Recommended fuel:
This engine is certified to operate on
unleaded gasoline intended for automotive use.
Mix Homelite Premium Exact Mixlubricant with gasolineaccording to the instructions on the package. If Premium Exact Mix lubricant is not available, use a high quality synthetic 2-cycle engine lubricant, mixed at 2.6 oz. per gallon (US)'
If you have a 4 cycle engine you should have oil in the crankcase and you don't need oil in the gas...now if your engine is 2 cycle which it probably is... then you need to mix 2 cycle oil with the gas...usually about 40 or 50 to 1...
Regular unleaded gas mixed with 2 cycle oil. (You need to check your model for mixture ratio but 30:1 (thirty parts gas to one part oil mix) is usually a good place to start) You can find mixing instructions on the back of the 2 cycle oil container
That's not engine oil in that "reserve" box. That's where you put the 2 cycle oil. The bike automatically mixes 2 cycle oil with your fuel. Just put regular fuel into the tank, and 10w 30 into the engine fill port on the motor and put 2 cycle oil into the tank under the seat.
Most likely not the answer you are looking for but here is a shot:
Pick up a bottle of the Echo brand 2-cycle oil. It will say "Extended Life" on the labeling. This is meant to run in Echo products, but it is a very FINE and well engineered oil. Mix it according to label directions for 50:1 ratios. (2.6 Oz. to 1 Gal. Gasoline)
When mixed at this ratio it provides MORE than adequate engine protection for ALL 2-Cycle engines, including those that run in 40, and 30:1 ratios.
I mix one 2-cycle tank to label instructions on the Echo oil for 50:1. It handily runs in my Echo chainsaws, non-echo trimmer, Poulan Pro leaf blower, etc. They all run different ratios, but THRIVE on the Echo mix without as much oily residue and smoke to boot!
CAUTION: I do not know of ANY OTHER MAKE of 2-cycle oil that CAN DO THIS *SAFELY*.
Remember:
Always mix your 2-cycle fuel starting with *fresh* gas.
Mix only that which you can use in 30 days.
Use 89 Octane fuel to make your mix in small piston 2-cycle engines.
Clean and re-oil intake filters @ every 10 hrs. operation time. Check and re-gap your plug when you service your filter!
DRAIN unused fuel from tank back into gas mix container. Restart and let engine idle to run any remaining fuel out of engine and carb. Storing fuel in ANY 2-cycle longer than two weeks is going to gum them up and nothing short of a carb rebuild will get them sputtering back to life again!
Yours is not a current model and I did not find a manual. The following is an excerpt from a 26cc MightyLite Blower/Vac UT08550/UT08951 "Operator's Manual": This product is powered by a 2-cycle engine and requires pre-mixing gasoline and 2-cycle lubricant. Pre-mix unleaded gasoline and 2-cycle engine lubricant in a clean 1 gallon container approved for gasoline. Recommended fuel: This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline intended for automotive use. Mix Homelite Premium Exact Mix lubricant with gasoline according to the instructions on the package. If Premium Exact Mix lubricant is not available, use a high quality synthetic 2-cycle engine lubricant, mixed at 2.6 oz. per gallon (US). Do not use automotive lubricant or 2-cycle outboard lubricant. NOTE: Premium Exact Mix fuel mix will stay fresh up to 30 days. DO NOT mix quantities larger than usable in a 30 day period. PREMIUM EXACT MIX (50:1) GasolineLubricant 1 gallon (US) 2.6 oz. 1 Liter 20 cc (20 ml) If properly adjusted your blower will operate fine on 50:1 regardles of what the manual reads. HTH Lou
