Im not getting any spark from one of side of my 2 cyclinder kawasaki ninja 500 EX. Its an 1987. I have replaced the plug wires and the pickup coils. I switched the coil packs and both work. Im just not sure what else it could be.

    I have the same problem with my 1987 Vulcan 1500 (88SE). After a cold start, for the first 10 minutes of operation the engine will fire on only one cylinder unless I pull the plug wire off and let it arc from about one-half inch away. (Needless to say, this is occasionally a shocking experience for me.) Eventually, it begins to fire normally and I can slip the cap back onto the plug. I have replaced the ignition coil assembly and plugs.

Hi,

To my knowledge, a 1987 Kawasaki EX500 uses a TCBI with digital advance to fire the ignition coils upon receipt of pulse from the trigger/pickup coils.

Since the pickup coils are new, and you have swapped the ignition coild, replace the high tension wires and checked/replace the spark plugs, the the only cmponent left is the CDI (electronic ignition system).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How do you use PICK UP OPTION

Firstly, you have to know the extensions that you want in this Pick-up Group.
Eg: 227,234,+239 all want to be in the same pick up group.

To get into programming press:
-> FEATURE 2 6 6 3 4 4
-> Password: 2 6 6 3 4 4
Now you will have to look at your LCD for 3 arrows
<- Heading....Enter->
<- Back .......Next->

-> you will now see TERMINALS&SETS and press Enter (the top right arrow key) now put in the extn that you want to change (Eg. 227).
-> you should now see the extension number 227: NAME, press Enter (the top right arrow key) again
-> you will now see Line access press NEXT
-> you will now see CAPABILITIES and Enter
-> now keep hitting NEXT till you see PICKUP GROUP:__ and CHANGE this to say 7
-> hit NEXT to save this change, then the HEADING button twice till you see the beginning of this menu eg 227: NAME

-> press Find and type in Ex.234 and follow same steps above to put this person in pickup group 7
-> and once again for Ex.239

After all the sets are now in the same pickup group 7, if anyone's set is ringing, dialing FEATURE 7 5 will answer the calls ringing in the group.
Once pressing the F75, whatever call was ringing the longest will be answered first... for your knowledge.

Wiring harness 1974 sportster???

I am assuming your bike is stock, or close to it. In 1974, all h-d's used a battery coil ignition with wasted spark. Battery positive flows from the ignition switch to the coil, through the coil primary winding to the points, then open or shorted to negative (through the chassis) depending on the points being open or closed. When the engine is turning over, this is what happens: The small cam that operates the points has the points in the closed position, so battery current is flowing through the coil primary, through the closed points to negative. This causes the primary winding inside the coil to set up a magnetic field. When the cam starts to open the points, the current tries to bridge the gap. If we let this happen, the big arc between the point surfaces would burn up in a hurry, and the plugs would not fire for the following reason: The ignition coil is a transformer. It has a primary and secondary winding.The secondary winding has many more turns of wire than the primary. When the secondary winding "cuts" magnetic lines of force a larger voltage is induced in the secondary. In the case on your sporty, we are boosting 12 volts to over 10,000 volts. This depends on 2 things: The number of lines of force and the speed they are cut. So, when the points just start to open, the condenser absorbes the current until the points are open enough to prevent arcing. Then the current flow through the primary winding stops. The magnetic field quickly collapses, cutting through the secondary windings that are connected to the spark plugs. The resulting high voltage (pressure) Jumps the gap on both plugs and lights the fire. One of the cylinders is on the exhaust stroke so that spark is wasted. So: ignition on : 12v at coil positive. With points closed, 0 volts at coil negative. If you read voltage here, the points are dirty or open or the wire from the coil to the points is open. Points open: 12 volts at coil negative. To check for spark, you don't have to crank the engine. Just manually opening the points should fire the plugs. After you get the plugs firing, post again and I will tell you how to razor tune this thing. It should start instantly with a perfect idle. Hope this is clear.

2001 ultra classic motor miss

Electrical problems and **** in the gas tank can cause misfires. It sounds more electrical in your case. But draining and flushing the gas tank is a cheap fix. Could also be a coil or spark plug problem. Check for a faulty, fouled or cracked plug, check for a good spark, check the coil for carbon tracking. Check the plug wire connections too and the wires.

I have a 1984 Harley Davidson FXRS. I have a single fire crane hi 4 ignition system. It ran flawlessly for a few years and now the bike missed a few time then quit entirely. Now have no spark and would...

There's no real way to check the coil, it either works or it doesn't. I've found that with my Harley's when I lose spark it's generally a bad wire or loose connection. If the wires/connections are good, then it's either the coil or the ignition module. I'd say with the newer Crane on it, that the problem is going to be with the coil. Check the voltage from the ignition module going into the coil. I'm not exact on the voltage, but as long as you have a good strong current getting to the coil, and low to nothing on the plug wire side, then the coil is bad.

96 eclipse

Hi,

To my knowledge a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse use a dual ignition system; two (2) ignition coil, 2 power transistor and two trigger. It would be necessary to do a trace/voltage check of the signal (flow) from the triggers (yellow and yellow/red wires) to the power transistor block output (yellow/green and yellow/blue wires) that goes into the ignition coil pair. Each coil provides the spark to a pair of plugs. The defective component would then be determined by process of elimination (which does not have a signal/voltage).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

I have a kawasaki kx60 2 stroke it wants to fire but not run what could be the reason why

Carb settings incorrect? Check / replace spark plug - do plug test to check for good spark. Fuel tap broken or not opening properly? Check flow of fuel to carb. Maybe blocked tubing.
