The firewall protection features by norton may be misconfigured .your xp firewall protection is turned off as other one is activated. What i suggest instead of norton firewall try to make xp firewall on. go to contron apnel, security centre, windows firewall, click on.

Why Do Norton makes the Computer Slow?

Because it is big and heavy. If you're using a free trial then download and install Avira Antivirus instead. You will need to use the Norton removal tool first though.
If you have a licence then download and install Norton antivirus netbook edition which is the same package but with the bloat cut out.

I had problems with an extremely slow pc. I replaced mcafee with Norton 360. Norton found a few trojans, etc. All removed and i undertook a disk defragment. Then Windows xp home edition did not start in...

Both Norton and Mcafee are known for slowing pc's down.

Boot your PC as normal, but as its starting keep pressing the F8 key until some options appear on your screen. On of which will be "boot windows in safe mode".

Select that option and a windows shell should open.

Once open got to Start - Control Panel - Add/remove programmes and uninstal both mcafee and norton.

Once complete, reboot and see how you PC runs.

Assuming its working ok now, go back to your control panel - security centre - enable windows firewall.

Go online to "Filehippo.com" and download and istall the free version of AVG (anti virus software) once installed let it scan your system.

Then go back to Filehippo.com, download and install Ccleaner. This has loads of tools, :-
1) Cleaner clears all the tempory internet files of your pc.

2) Startup - you can reduce the number of programes you want th start up when booting.

You don't need any here because you can access all programmes via start but I'd leave AVG and any securtiy related to start and delete the rest. But its probably better to just disable the rest until you're happy with which programmes auto start.

Good Luck

New router no download speed

I would recommend trying to shut down the nortons or any other firewalls and trying a speedtest, maybe at speedtest.net, then put the firewalls back up one at a time and see if one of them is slowing you down. this is usually the case

I have renewal code for my Norton 2009 but unabe to renew

I have always hated norton. Its annoying, costs money, uses lots of memory and does a crappy job at finding viruses. I would recommend AVG antivirus. Don't worry its free and there is no dumb codes to enter.

My computer is really slow and it wont let me download any antivirus

Ok, more than likely, not to be definite, you could have a virus on your computer. If you need help getting rid of it (what to use, how) or to speed up your computer. Message me. As for your computer, you could have a lot of unused files, cache and fragmented files. You need to get certain programs, Advance System Care, CCleaner, ESET NOD 32 anti-virus program. If you want to salvage your computer, get a flash drive, use a friend's computer or work computer (If allowed) to download trials of these programs. Then transfer onto a Flash Drive (I reccommend a 2gb flash drive, they are around $10) Then install or run from flash drive to your computer, then run them.
Hope this helped. Best of luck!

Norton renewal subscription

the problem lies in the registry uninstall norton 360 then re-install this clears the reg then try your key again.

my personal View Don't use norton 360 as it will slow your system down use Kespersky Internet security this is the best one out and also use avg virus program when you switch to kaspesky internet security then remove avg which you can get a free version.

Hello

Actually all Norton products slow down the computers. Why dont you uninstall Norton 360, and see whether the performance of your computer has increased,if it does, ill recommend you to install Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, please check link below:
http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/
it is a review of all the security softwares. and also ill recommend you to install, Tuneup Utilities 2008, it will keep your computer clean of junk files.

Norton antivirus 2008

Yes, Norton will do this.. one reason I will not advise any of my clients to purchase anything from Norton anymore.. If you are using XP, you should really just install the Norton AV solution and do NOT install the Security Version..

Basically, you are probably running 3 firewalls now, and it is going to cause you all kinds of trouble in the future.. you could disable the XP firewall and see if that will repair the damage, but to tell you the truth (from experience!) Norton may still give you trouble..

My suggestion? Uninstall Norton completely, return it to the store, and if you really want Norton, then purchase only the AV solution. Then let XP be your firewall.. especially since you are running behind a NAT'd device (your Linksys).. you really do not need the extra firewall running, regardless of what anyone tells you.. (note that I am a network engineer, Cisco Certified, and do know what I am talking about here..:)

Also, since this is a WiFi connected computer, make sure that you have WEP, WAP, or another encryption running on your Wireless network.. this would concern me more than anything, since I would not need access to your computer (reason for a firewall) to steal your data..

Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season!
