Make sure that the hard drive is on one cable the ide and that the power is run to it, there is also a jumper setting on the back of the hard drive, you want this little jumper to be on the "master" setting. lastly resetting the bios to defaults will ensure that bios will detect the old hard drive. it will prompt you what key to press to enter bios. generally the key will be F2 F1 delete or TAB try pressing each of these before the computer beeps. in all reality there is much more to replacing a hard drive then plugging it in windows will need to be reinstalled as well as the drivers will be designed to run off the other computer

Harddisk failure iminnent in hp pavillion ms 200 how to fix

You need to open the case (make sure power and everything is unplugged), which if slightly harder on a All-in-one PC. But when you do. you'll see a hard drive (google images) you need to unplug it from its cable and replace it with a new one. And depending on the problem, you could try get it fixed, take it to a repair shop, if not, transfer all your data onto the new hard drive by mirroring it. Then place the new hard disk in place of the old one.

Have a HP SR1010V, 33GB HD - XP Home. Want to 1) replace HD with a 100-200GB HD OR 2) ADD a 100-200GB HD and 3) ADD a DVD drive. What is best way to copy data to a new HD and to boot the new HD. Rather...

The easiest route would be to install the new hard drive in place of the old hard drive and place the old hard drive below the new hard drive and make it a secondary hard drive or slave drive. Once you have them installed this way you can install Windows XP Home to the new hard drive once you have it installed to the hard drive then you can copy everything from your old hard drive to the new one. Once you have everything copied from the old hard drive you can then format it within Windows to have 33GBs of space to store anything you wish. If you need more detailed instructions don't hesitate to reply.

Given E-Machine 366I2. Will not take new hard Drive

Shouldnt think it was the cables since you got as far as you have. Could be a problem on the drive and you might want to do a low level format to make sure. Drive type should not matter. Western Digital has a low level format utility on there site. wd.com

my other thought is that for some restores you have to have the exact components present that originally came with the machine. so, unplug everything but keyboard, mouse and video. put back to original amount of memory.

use a windows disk to do restore from scratch instead of restore disk. good luck.

Service pack3 crashed puter - after reinstall machine thinks extra hard drive is a disk drive.

You can get to the BIOS by hitting DEL or F2 at start up.

However, that does not have anything to do with a drive letter.

Drive letter designation is set in
START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>DISK MANAGEMENT.

Hope this helps.

I have a HP laptop that is about 18 months old. It's been working fine except battery is too low to run without using elec. cord. I used it yesterday, turned it off, then went to start it today and the...

I had the same exact problem letter for letter except mine was a COMPAQ Presario F730US. I Bought an external 2.5 inch usb hard drive case and placed my hard drive from the laptop in it. I backed up all my files to my desktop making a mirror image of the hard drive. Then I wiped the Hard drive with wipe disk to destroy all my personal data and put the hard drive back in the laptop. I then sent it in for warranty repair for free. It took two weeks to get it back. I bought a new battey(12 cell) on ebay. Then I pulled the hard drive out of the now repaired laptop, put it back in the external usb case, formatted it NTSF and copied the mirror image of the drive back to it. I installed the hard drive back in the rejuvinated laptop, Installed the new battery, and powered it up. Fired up like it never happened. I did not lose 1 bit of data. The reason you make the mirror image with norton ghost is so you do not have to spend a month reinstalling all your apps and preferences. Follow these instructions to the letter and the result will be the same.
As you say you still under warranty get hoppin on this and it will only cost you 15 bucks for the external case and a new battery, which I recommend you get from ebay and not the manufacturer.(1/3 the price).

Hope this helps you,
George

New hard drive(s) in Dell4500s

You would have to contact dell for the OS disk.

I dont think you can install the hard disk in place of floppy drive. An external Hard disk would be a better option.

Hard drive short-circuit

Try taking the drive out of your computer and placing it in another computer as a "slave". Allow the other computer to boot up and seeif it recognizes your hard drive.

If it does, access your files that you need and copy and paste to an external hard drive till you can replace your computer with a new hard drive. It's worth a try.
