If the freezer is iced up, this is a clear indication that the defrost heater is not working. Either the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat is bad. If in doubt, replace both of them.

I had the same problem and I discovered it was the defrost element that was shorted out which keeps the ice from building up located behind the back freezer wall.
Is the freezer cold enough to make ice maker operate. 10 degrees or less.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In
most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.
