Screen only showing vertical lines after being dropped

I dropped my laptop and since the sceen has only vertical lines of color, no horizontal. The screen has worked properly only one time since, the next time I started the laptop it went back to just vertical lines. I can connect the laptop to a external monitor and it will work. Is there maybe a connection loose to the screen, or what?

The damage could be either in the LCD screen or the connection cable. Open the screen assembly and check the connection cable first.
In case it doesn't work you can find replacement LCD screens here.

Dell Latitude D505 half of screen is black with colored vertical lines.

Sounds like you have a section of dead pixels. This can happen if the laptop has been dropped a lot or stepped on or some type of impact on the laptop. This is a hardware issue. You will need to have the screen replaced. In my opinion, by the age of the laptop, its better off getting a new one.

Laptop screen is flickering and colorful lines vertical and horizontal.

The Graphics Adapter my be bad. Try connecting a external monitor to verify, if the external monitor has the same, it's most likely the Graphics Adapter. Also, a way to verify a Graphics Driver issue is to boot to Safe Mode, the computer uses the generic driver, if you have the same issue, it also points to the Graphics Adapter. Has the Laptop been damaged? Dropped? Jarred? Has the Laptop been overheating? Have you cleaned the fan, vents, heatsink lately? Have you done ALL your Windows and Laptop manufacturer's updates? Any Graphics Updates?

Horizontal vertical lines on Laptop screen

you might have to remove your graphics card to make sure the socket is clean
restart your computer the reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard
if your computer came with a mother board disk the drivers could be on it

click start control panel display desktop you can select a different desktop from the drop down list
or a browse button where you can select different pictures this may vary depending on your operating system

also you can change the settings for more or less pixels or from the drop down list pick the appropriate level of color range or troubleshoot also select advanced then general dpi normal size, larger size or custom settings
always click APPLY after making any changes

windows 7

Open Personalization by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Personalization.

Click Window Color and Appearance.

Under Window Color and Appearance, click the color you want, and then click OK.

Note

If you see the Appearance Settings dialog box instead of the Window Color and Appearance

window, the theme might not be set to Windows Vista, the color scheme might not be set to Windows Aero, or the computer might not meet the minimum hardware requirements for running Windows Aero. For more information, see Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero.

hope this helps

Vertical strip of flashing horizontal lines on Acer Aspire 7551G screen

More than likely it's the lcd screen and will have to be replaced. I could be the video card, but most likely the lcd screen especially when you can put pressure on the screen and cause changes. To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then the problem is with your lcd screen and the video card is ok. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same as your lcd screen then the problem is with your video card inside the computer.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Once you narrow it down to the lcd screen as being the problem you might try taking the lcd screen apart to reseat the lcd cable on the back at the top of the lcd. Just unplug it and plug it back into the connector. You can also try doing the same where the lcd cable plugs into the motherboard. Just pull it out and put it back.

A vertical white line appears on my screen

What is happening to your laptop is the power line connecting a row of pixels is failing so only partial colors are showing up causing the vertical white line. Usually screen replacement is the only answer to fix it.
