    Hey there,

here is some of my Powerbook info. Is the update you suggested, compatible with my system? This Powerbook G4 was given to me by a friend in L.A. but I'm scared to make a wrong move and I don't want to screw anything up as I'm currently in Germany over the holiday season and I would hate to have no MAC because of an incorrect installation. Thank you so much for assisting me here and a Merry Christmas to you!

    Mikey

Choppy videos will most likely be caused by a video driver not being installed.

Drivers will be available for download from the apple site.

It is quite difficult to find them on the Apple site!

I did a bit of research and the G4 appears to use the ATI Radeon chipset. These are the drivers provided by apple on their site.

    Try the following drivers:http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/dr...

If these do not work let me know and I will get the link direct from the graphics manufacturer!

    Hi Mikey.

Just checked the spec and you appear to have a newer model powerbook which could have either an ATI or nvidia graphics card installed.

Click on the apple icon and select 'About this Mac'.
Then click again on 'More Info' from the list and select 'Graphics/Displays' option.

As soon as you do that, a text box will open along with the required information about the video card.

If it states "ATI" or "Radeon" anywhere you need to download the driver fromhttp://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/dr...

If it states "Nvidia" or "Geforce" anywhere you will need the nvidia drivers, the following link are the only drivers available on the apple site:http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/dr...

Powerbook G4 12" no video

Try this courtesy of your manufacturer
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
If that doesnt work lemme know

Restore CD

You don't need a "restore" cd.

You can just use any copy of Tiger.

Borrow one!
