Also, take out the memory card, plug it into your pc and format it.

open my computer - right click on the memory card and select format. Fat 32 I beleave. defaults settings - format.

Try it again on the camera.

How can I unlock my Nikon D80 Memory Card

There's a little switch on the side of the card that locks and unlocks the card.

Hi, My Nikon D90 with Nikkor 18-200mm lens is giving me the following error message: Memory card is locked. Slide to "write" position. Any ideas how to correct this? Thanks! Jennifer

Take the memory card out of the camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again. Then put the card back into the camera.

There's usually a little switch on the memory card itself. Change the position of that switch.

Memory card is write protected

Suddenly the card you have inserted is locked so that's why is says write protected. To unlocked the it get or remove your card from your camera. You can see in your memory card there is a small button her try to slide the button to unlocked. Insert your memory card back to your camera and try to take a picture it will take a picture.

Good luck!

Hi there.

This may be easier than you think.<grin>
SD cards can become accidentally locked. Double check your card. Take a look at the side of it. There will be a little switch. Make sure the switch is in the unlocked postion and see if that's your problem. Let me know if that doesn't help.

Memory card

Hi Janet, do this:
To fix this, remove the SD card from your camera. Look on the side and you will find a little switch. One end of the switch says locked the other end says unlocked. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Replace it in your camera and turn it back on.

Nikon Coolpix 4800 digital

Your memory card has a little switch on the side of it called the Write Protect Switch. If it is in the Locked position, the camera will tell you the memory card is protected. Just take the memory card out and slide the switch to the unlocked position. You should be able to take pictuers now.
