Question about Gateway PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Gateway Desktop PC.(831GM) I used Internet Explorer as my browser and now I can't access it. My ISP is Verizon and they tried to re-set my computer to the original default settings but we still couldn't access IE. I have a laptop connected to a router and the laptop gets IE but not the Gateway.

You may need to put your model number in gateways website and download the drivers to a thumb drive or burn to a cd before attempting this.

The fastest resolution to this problem is to take a respective windows disk (make sure you check your key on the side of the tower and see if it says xp home or xp professional) whichever you have get a windows disk the same as this and boot from the windows disk first it will ask you if you want to boot from cd press any key do so. then it will load drivers. it will then ask you if you want to load the recovery console or if you want to install windows, press what key it says for installing windows. it will then check for previous versions of windows xp on the computer. eventually it will pop-up with a license agreement, press F8 to accept. then if you used the appropriate disc (XP or PRO) it will then ask if you want to repair the previous installation of windows. press r for repair. it will then begin the repair copying files then rebooting. do not remove the disc and do not hit a key when it asks if you want to boot from the cd rom at this point. it will do it's thing for about 2-5 minutes. at this point it will ask for a license key which you will type in from your key located on the outside of the case. hit enter it will continue, if it has a question about network settings tell it to use defualt. if any other pop-ups appear between now and reboot cancel the pop-up. it will reboot and again do not boot from the cd let it time out, and done you will be in windows xp. install all drivers needed and run automatic updates if auto updates do not work google: automatic update repair batch file. there are a few out there that will auto clear the cache for updates. after running it for a while and a couple more reboots then updates will function properly.

Sound driver for gateway 831gm windows-7

If you are having problems with the driver, a standard reinstall should be enough to fix it. Navigate to Start->Device Manager and click on "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". Right click on your sound device and click "Update Device Drivers".

The Internet is a very popular means of obtaining information and communicating with people just about anywhere in the world, and it free to use. You can access the Internet by using either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Both of these are browsers are provided free with Windows.
However, in order to access the Internet, you will have to pay aconnection fee to either an Internet Servive Provider (ISP) or an On-Line Service. You can sign up with the On-line service MSN (Microsoft Network) by pasting the following URL in your browsers address line:
http://www.msm.com If you want to use an ISP, you will have to find one in your area - they will be listed in the yellow pages.

Hi, im using a brand new acer asprire x1800 desktop..and i can HARDLY connect to the internet using SUN BROADBAND (lan connection already disabled). i have been using the broadband for a few months now....

There could be several possibilities for your internet connection to slow, or stop functioning. Here is a small list of things to check:

1) Run Spybot Search & destroy:
This is a program that will help you find, and eliminate malware, it's free from Here. It also helps speed your PC up by removing unwanted malware that can drain your system's resources.

2) Check your scheduled tasks to determine nothing is set to run during these " down " times.

3) Check to make sure any wireless connections are secured using WEP or other such wifi security. It's a little known fact that people will " pigy-back " on someone's wifi connection to use the internet and download. this can cause internet instability.

4) Call your Internet Service Provider. Your ISP can usually help you determine if the problem is with your computer or their connection.

5) Check your network settings. Your ISP can help you determine the best settings for your connection, as well you may check to see if the network device has an updated driver from the manufacturer.

6) If all else fails, you may wish to take your PC to a licensed technician, or replace the network device if you feel it is faulty.

In my experience most internet instability that happens on a regular basis during a set amount of time is due to malware, or scheduled downloads.

Cannot or blocked on only my home P.C. to acess the yahoo sign in page for my e-mail tried and tried to acess sign in page and it stated that internet explorer will not

Check the privacy settings on your Internet Explorer
Click Tools => Internet Options => Security => Restricted Sites and check if Yahoo is under the Blocked website list. If not, try downloading other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and try checking your email.

Cheers!
