Meilun 250 bogs at half throttle

Hi, Edwin lets break this down to a simple explanation. There are some riders that want better performance from their motorcycle without spending a "DRACHMA" these are mods that were implemented back in the Teradactal era and are still used to this day. Your engine is nothing more than a well-engineered air box, the more air/fuel it can suck in and push out the better the performance. The trick is keeping the air/fuel mixture perfectly balanced to the engine size and exhaust output. By drilling holes and leaving out the air filter more air can be sucked in and we all know what high winds can do to a forest fire, the same principle. I would venture to say that there may have been some carb re-jetting to accommodate the extra air so the bike wouldn't fall on its face, it's all about balance. When you put the new (no holes) air box and filter on you decreased the amount of air and flow getting to the combustion chamber but not the fuel volume, ergo you are running way to much fuel resulting in poor performance. I do applause you for wanting clean air it allows your engine to live longer. That being said you need to balance the air/fuel ratio by dropping down a couple of sizes on your main jet in order for the bike to perform acceptable with the newly installed parts. "CAUTION" measure the existing main jet with jet drills because some riders will drill out their stock main jet without changing the identifying number stamped on it or just start with a stock main jet designed for your bike. Once you get the bike to perform ok you can fine-tune it for maximum performance. Engine rpm surges intermitently

Miles? Have you replaced ignition coils recently? Pretty good chance that they could be going bad. I would start by swapping all 8 coils and plugs and probably changing the valve cover gasket as well as those are known to go bad in the 2000-2003 LS

Engine Surge when cold

Since the engine light is on, you need to have the code/s read. There are different causes for your symptoms. This may be related to EGR valve performance, oil flow. vacuum leak, idle air control valve, or fuel flow and pressure. Have the codes read and let me know. The more specific and detailed you can be, the better I can help narrow down your search and repair it. Good luck.

you sure your engine isn't surging... you would see it at lower speeds... my motorcycle surges at a certain rpm due to fuel ratio's at the one speed ( running lean )... so what i am saying is, could it be that the engine surge only shows itself at a certain ground speed.

or is it because of a hydro system pressure relief valve ???

Motorcycle oils and passenger car oils are very similar, with the exception of a couple of areas that are key to motorcycle operation. The first area concerns common sumps, or the use of motor oil, to lubricate and cool the transmission. As you know, in a passenger car the transmission is lubricated by an ATF fluid, which has frictional properties required for transmission operation. In a motorcycle, where the transmission may be lubricated by the engine oil, an engine oil that does not have the same level of friction modification (for fuel economy) of a typical passenger car engine oil will provide better transmission performance in terms of transmission lock-up and slippage. So motorcycle engine oil does not contain the friction modifiers of a passenger car engine oil. The second area of concern for motorcycle engine oils is that they tend to shear (breakdown viscosity) more quickly than a typical passenger car. Mobil 1 motorcycle oils are designed to provide exceptional protection against viscosity loss.

EGR Valve

An engine surge is usually caused by a fuel system management or drivetrain failure. The fuel management system utilizes sensors that monitor emission output and engine performance are communicating with the main ECM (Engine Control Module) controlling fuel mixture, timing and emission management systems. While the engine is surging the ECM is "hunting" by adjusting the fuel mixture and timing. These adjustment are made by the ECM in a isolating manner as the ECM tries to satisfy its coordinates.
These coordinates are not satisfied because of a system malfunction.
