Nikon Coolpix: indicates that the card is write protected - which it is not..

When i switch on my Nikon Coolpix s51c it shows the card is write protected . I have tried to change the memory card - same problem persists. The camera works fine with its small internal memory. Is there any way to reset it? Any suggestion?? Thanks!! Eva

Theres a reset all function in the camera - setup menu.

Also, take out the memory card, plug it into your pc and format it.

open my computer - right click on the memory card and select format. Fat 32 I beleave. defaults settings - format.

Try it again on the camera.

ok, take the camera to nikon for service, do you have warranty on it?

Or you can take it to a local camera shop they can look at it or direct you to someone.

  • Ekse Jul 02, 2008

when you take it in for service remember to take the memory card with you so they can test it and make sure it works.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks,

    Ekse

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Is the Nikon S51c the same as the S51? In regards to the post on ability to use SDHC cards up to 32G. Ty.

The S51c adds wifi capabilities to the S51, allowing you to download pictures to a computer via a wifi connection. Otherwise the two models are identical; both models will accept SDHC cards up to 32GB in size.

I have a nikon coolpix and says memory is write proteted how can i get it to work with out this?

Take a look at the memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My camera is saying that my card cannot be used ( sd card) I erased the pictures on it and still it comes up with that. last time I used my camera it worked fine. What do i do?

Try formatting the card in the camera using the camera's format feature located in its menus. If offered "low level" format, select it. Note that this will also totally erase the card, so do this only after you're certain that all needed photos have been backed up to your computer.

MY MEMORY CARD IS WRITE PROTECED MY CAMERA WONT WORK

Remove the memory card from the camera. On the side of the card, there is a tiny button. Push it to the other side of the tiny groove on which it sits. Voila your card is no more write protected. If you are still lost, let me know.

You need to unlock the card itself. Take it out and look for a tab on the left. It should be pushed up.
