Its the power supply problem
it is very common in lcd tv,
they are repairable ,check whether any bulged capacitor is seen on the board ,replace it ,if not familiar with soldering do not try to do it your self a local technician can do this the cost will not more than his service charge.

feel free for further assistance rate the solution as fixya if this helps you to solve your problem.

Following comment found helps.
Most LCD faults experienced are of two types
1 Dead (Psu faults)
2 Display Panel Faults

1 Dead NO pic or Snd
Some have external power units, the ones with a 4pin plug are usually the fault
even if they measure +12v coming out, test by substitution

The Psu are Just like any Psu using SMPS(chopper), so use normal PSU fault finding techniques
Start with , Any power from secondary of chopper transformer, at the diodes)
usual PSU voltages are 5v,3.3v 12v (the 12v feeds the CCF tubes power generators)
If yes the psu ok, If no check for 320v across mains smoothing capacitor
If 320v ok but no output, check for shorts on the output lines (schottly diodes)
If the PSU is running and there are any leds glowing on the front
check to see it the flurecent tubes (on each side) are glowing
they usually have their own supply generators powered by 12v from PSU

Ps anyone know where to get:- schottky 120v 10a double diodes t220 case or similar?

2 Display Panel faults
Vertical (source) faults are usually within the actual panel (Lines/Bands down Picture)
Horzontal (gate) faults are unually within the actual panel (Bands/Lines across the screen)
All faults that are within the panel aren't repairable (I know specialist repairs are possible , But the COST)
there is a firm calle D'lec why not ask them for a price

Permanant Missing or Lit spots are often found , and are normal (most screens have a few)
For actual usual faults check my online database for your actual make/model (if any)

I have a philips 37" flat screen TV, when I switch

hi,
There is problem with the back light of your tv. In LCD tvs CCFL are used as back light to give light to independant pixels. CCLF lamps required high voltage to light. This high voltage is provided by the inverter board inside ths tv. If any one of the chopper transformer (high voltage transformer) have some problem then the inverter will shuts off itself preventing damges to the power supply.

You have to check the 24V from the power supply. If its ok the you have to check the inverter board.if avilabe replace the same. if you are not able to do the same i will prefer to consult some one experienced in it. Back light inverter board will look like one in the picture.

PHILLIPS PLASMA TV MODEL #42PF9431D/37 Heard

Hi, Usually any "Pops" are an Electrolytic Capacitor "blowing up" quite literally, or "Gassing" as it is called. This happens due to some sort of power problem. Capacitors hate AC Voltage and Current, and Heat and Over Voltage. All of which, I have no doubt it was exposed to before it went "Pop" This is only a symptom of a far greater problem, to come, no doubt, soon, the rest of the set will fail too. Please DO NOT USE. this set any more, you risk fire or explosion or both. If you MUST use it at least unplug at bed time. Theses days home repair except for the most rudimentary problem is not feasible, setting aside the safety aspect. In my professional opinion, I would recommend, that you get a "Quote" for repair from a Philips Authorised Service Agent This is very important, that you contact a Philips head office and ask for a referral. This way at least you can make a decision to repair or replace.
