Can i install 4 gb of ram on a Gt5062e

No, the maximum memory for the GT5062E is 2 GB (2 x 1GB DDR2 533/667 MHz single-sided memory modules). This Gateway uses the MS-7248 motherboard; Gateway has the specifications here: http://panam.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/MSI/WMEMS-7248/WMEMS-7248sp2.shtml . For additional information about the desktop, see http://panam.gateway.com/s//PC/R/1009005/1009005nv.shtml .

I hope this helps.

I installed 5G memory cards to my Gateway GT5238 PC, 1024 MB DDR2, Intel core 2 Duo E6300, 9-in-1 memory card reader, Non EEC, 4 slots, max memory 8192MB (8GB), PC2-6400, 8500, 5300, RAM DDR2. It had 1G to...

  • You Gateway only supports up to 8 GB. memory. Hence it will not see your 5 GB. dimms
  • tops: 8129 MB (8 GB.). 4- 2GB. Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.

  • Specs:
  • Installed: 1024 MB DDR2 (PC4200), 533 MHz memory (two 512 MB modules)
  • Expandable to: 8 GB (4 memory slots)

  • How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

    Ram memory

I recently upgraded the memory in a Gateway desktop with a similar configuration as your. If you only had two of the four memory slots filled before you attempted to upgrade, those two originally used slots must be filled first before you add memory to either one or both of the other two slots. As far as the maximum amount of memory that can be used in each slot, I would need more specific information on your computer. My suggestion at this point is that you either refer to your manual if you have one, or if you do not have a manual, you can access this information online. I was just on Gateway's web site but for your specific information on memory upgrade I would need either a more accurate model number or, what would be best is the serial number of your machine. You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about computers so the easiest would be for you to access Gateway's web site. Once you are on their site go to "support", then go to "my support". You will be prompted to enter your serial number at this time. This page should give you all the information that you need. Listed there should be the maximum amount of memory for the system and also the maximum amount of memory per slot. For example, if the maximum memory of the system is 4 GB, the maximum per slot would be 1 GB. The easiest for you, and what I did on my recent upgrade, would be to leave the existing two pieces of 256 MB in their original slots and purchase two more, 1 Gigabyte pieces and use those in the previously unused slots. You would be under the maximum that you could use in your system but adding 2 GB will improve the performance a great deal and you would not waste the memory that was originally installed.

No, you've got it in one.

I think you'd only have two memory slots anyway.. so shut down, unplug the power, then remove the existing memory. Push the white tabs that are on either end of the memory out and down until the memory pops loose. Remove it, then install the new memory the same way around.

I'm not sure if your motherboard can support 2gb of RAM, but in any case, that is the correct procedure for upgrading memory.

    Installing RAM

I was not able to find specific information for that computer but replacing memory on any desktop computer is usually pretty straight forward. You would unplug from power, remove the screws for the cover, and locate the slots that hold the memory chips and add the memory. It might be a case that all of your memory slots are full and you'll need to remove some of the memory first. You could replace them with larger capacity chips. HP lists generic memory information at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph03886&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=426931&lang=en Good luck
