Would this be a resistor in the power supply or you think the entire power supply could be bad? Nothing with any of the solders?

  • g68mike Jul 02, 2008

I also noticed when the TV is plugged in, it turns on by itself or on then off right away. ANy other ideas?

    Thanks

It's simply refered to as the power supply- the repair guys will know exactly what you are talking about when you use it. You see the power supply upgrades the power to drive the tube- much in the same way a coil increases the power on your car from 12 volts to what ever it needs to turn the engine. The green light just means that you turned it on, and all the other curicuts are working. Like if your car coil is bad-you can still turn on the lights and radio-but there is not enough power to turn over the engine/turn on the picture tube. I love my 36 incher- mine is 12 years old-and was only in the shop once-and still gives a better picture than the LCDs out there. I'm a member of SMPTE. society of motion picture and television enginers.

TV wants to turn on but can't. Green on-light goes on, then sounds like a relay clicks off and it tries a couple times, but nothing happens.

Check and replace the shorted component/s in its horizontal output section circuit. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center.

TV turns on and off without pressing any button

This could be a simple issue with the dome switches on the tv. Many times they will become faulty and can cause strange things like this, one common cause of the switches going bad is incorrectly cleaning a tv by spraying cleaner directly onto the screen and allowing the solution to drip down the screen, capillary action will take a few drops of the solution an deposit it on the switch board behind the switches, causing the tv to malfunction. Even though the power is turning on and off does not mean that the power switch is the one causing this. Without getting technical the design of the switch array can make any faulty button work another function. For example a faulty volume up switch can turn the tv on or off. All of the switches need replaced.

My rca 36" tv went out the green light is blinking but no sound or picture

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Without seeing the actual set, I can only suggest some of the common things that can cause this. Based upon your description, I would first look for a poor solder connection where the AC cable connects to the board. Look in that area for any charred spots. Let me know if there are any. The bussing usually is arcing of the AC power.

36 inch RCA tv (model # 36V430T)

I wouldn't advise doing it yourself. All you have to do to kill yourself is touch the wrong part connected to the magnets on the back of the tube-even if it has been unplugged for a couple of days- no joke. The repair place will be better able to track down the part, and install it, and guarentee it. Be aware- it might take a week or two for them to just get the part-then they have to install it.

Mike-It looks like the power supply is going on your tv-it can be replaced. This happens, usually, when little kids are playing wth the remote or power button on the tv. Turn it off and on a whole bunch of times in a row, kids love to do that, and it burns out the power supply part- to make a CRT tv like your RCA36 incher- which is a beautiful machine- I have the RCA/PROSCAN 36 incher-LAST longer...You should always wait 5 min between turning it off and on. Don't ever sell it. This one is worth fixing. It has better color and sound Than the new plasmas and lcds-The Pros know this. Be carefull, they might try and talk you out of it-so they can fix it and have it for themselves. So what if it's not High Deff. It's a great set.
