1 Answer

Processor Speed decreases

I notice that my PCG FR130 was running too slow in all operations that i do. Then I noticed that the processor speed deacresed to 512Mhz then it went to 235MHZ (the orginal speed is 1.67 GHz). I was thinking to flash the BIOS since it might be virus but I am hesitating that there might be other solutions please help.. thanks

I think you cpu may have speed stepping technology
this you can read up online but what is does is regulate the speed of the cpu for smooth running. this can be disable in most bios so there may be no need to flash the bios. however iive never seen it bring a cpu speed that low 235mhz. overall you may just need to increase RAM memory. if you can you could also clean out the heat sink.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Can i upgrade the speed

Yes.

This is why people (Gamers usually), use harddrives that have a spindle speed of 10,000, or 15,000RPM.
Also why people use SSD harddrives. (Solid State Drive)

(Problem is those harddrives have a small storage capacity, in relation to harddrives that spin at a slower spindle speed.

One example; 1TB harddrive that has a spindle speed of 7,200RPM, compared to 10,000RPM harddrive with only 150GB )

To really improve the performance past that Bob, make sure you have the Ram Memory maxed out.

If the laptop for example, has 1GB of ram memory, and will support up to 4GB; this is the way to go.

Also, let's say the laptop uses DDR2 Sdram at 667MHz.
(PC2-5300 that is SO-DIMM)

But can support DDR2 Sdram at 800MegaHertz.
(PC2-6400 that is SO-DIMM)

It is BETTER to have MORE ram memory, than it is to have faster ram memory.

The first memory area for the Processor is the Cache.
(L1, and L2. Newer processors? L3)

This is a small memory area for the Processor.
Operates at same frequency rate ('Speed') as the Processor does.
Therefore it is the first memory area the Processor accesses.

Next in line is the Ram Memory.
Ram Memory typically operates at HALF, of the Processor's FSB.
(Front Side Bus)

Do not have enough ram memory? Then a small memory area is created on the harddrive. VIRTUAL memory.

Virtual memory is typically 1-1/2 times the ram memory.

More ram memory, faster computer.

Next memory area is the harddrive.
IDE (PATA) and SATA harddrives are mechanical.

As such they are way slow, in comparison to the frequency rate ('Speed'), that ram memory operates at, much less the Processor's cache.

SSD harddrive? Still doesn't operate as fast.

Want to speed your computer up even more?
Delete anything off of your harddrive, that you are not using.
(NOTHING Windows, though)

Programs, and applications.
Copy off personal documents.
Personal documents being photos, videos, music, and personal documents you have created, or downloaded.

The more stuff on a harddrive, the slower the computer.
Hit 50 percent full? You start to notice.
Hit 70 percent full? You REALLY start noticing now.

Also use a registry cleaner. (I use CCleaner. It's FREE, and works as well as paid for versions, plus better than some)

Cookies, and fragmented files take up room also.
Delete a program, photo, video, music, whatever; and bits of fragmented files are left over.

The more room on a harddrive, the faster the computer.
Remember back when the computer was new?

I bought a flip hd mincorder and it needs a least a 2.0 p4 processor. I have a 1.7 p4. Can I swap to a faster processor ? would I notice an improvement ?

You will notice a lot of improvement in the speed and working of the PC when you change it to a faster processor. You can run the mini-corder with your 1.7Ghz P4 processor but you will soon be tired with the slow response of your PC. Changing it to a faster processor is a better option. You will be able to notice a change in the working of your PC with the mini-corder.
Before buying a Processor make sure you old processor can be replaced. Old Motherboards do not allow the replacement of the processor as it would be soldered. If you cannot change the Processor you will have to get a new motherboard with a better processor if you need a better one.
I suggest you buy an Intel Core2Duo or an Intel iCore Processor, not a P4. Leave a comment if you need more guidance. Don't forget to rate the solution.

I have pentinum4 intel(R) celeron processor 1.3 GHZ processor. I want to increase the speed of my processor without any hardware change. I have 40 GB HD & 512MB with windows XP RAM.plz help

you cannot change the speed of your processor unless your processor supports overclocking. however your processor does not support that.

if your computer is running slow try upgrading the RAM to 1GB.
also check to see whether you have unwanted applications running in the background

2 ghz processor running at 220 mhz

Hi,

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop (opening Display Properties), clicking on Screen Saver tab, Clicking the Power button, and setting the power schemes to Home/Office Desk? If its set on laptop it will reduce the processor speed when running on battery. I have noticed that even with it plugged in that some times it will run at half processor speed. Try that out.

Have a great day,

My pentium d 925 3.0 4m/800 processor decrease its core speed

It is absolutely normal if the processors speed and multiplier fluctuates. It doesn't mean that the processor is damaged. This technology is called Intel Speedstep. When your processor is not used on 100% it reduces its speed, so the power consumption decreases. When you need more power, the processor will automatically clock itself to higher speed.

for more information check here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedStep

If you want to turn off this feature, you have to do it in your motherboards bios. You can find it in advanced ---> cpu settings ---> Intel Speedstep, you have to choose Disabled.

Thats all

AMD k6-2

the problem is xp which makes with an older K6-2 the clock speed lower. It takes a lot for a machine to run XP.
The best way is either go back to 98 or the only way could be ME.
not much what you can do about it otherwise

Run more programs.. Newer laptop cpus throttle back when not needed. If you want to run notepad at full speed, see if you can set the power saver options for full performance.
